it is deep in there...but what isn't clear from instructions is it is to the far right, up against where the HU is...it isn't where you think it is

look far right and it is small too...far right and a little bit down low to the right of where your right knee is

look at the TSB there is a specific one on removing it

Is this the correct bold, because I removed the bolt attached to this and the left side of the HU does not want to come off.

apparently he got the bolt out (PM) but he is worried about the rest of the install...I hope he doesn't go to a pro like he said since that will be pissing money down the drain, especially when he got past all the difficult parts (except maybe a connector or two)

News Flash.. From SEMA
PIE will soon be realeasing there own IPod adapter box.
but it will be a one or the other deal. It will use the same connecter as the Pie aux in and the Ice link. But it will be priced much closer to the Pie Aux Under input $100.00
. It will allow compleat controll of your Ipod with your Stearing wheel buttons.

I will be selling them as soon as i get my hands on them .. Looks like 1 month away.

Well, I took it to a professional car stereo installtion place and well.... they screwed my car up really bad. They apparantly pryed the panels loose with a screwdriver or something, because every panel that touches the HU is damaged, and the faceplate is damaged also. My radio doesn't work, along with my air conditioner, display and the DVD NAV screen will no longer tilt. The service engine light had been on but it is now off. Took it by Mazda today - they are going to order new panels, new HU and fix the car... the car stereo store is supposed to pay for everything. I have been so upset and sick all weekend. The company even wanted to blame everything on the IceLink adapter - saying it must have fried the internal workings of the HU. Is this possible or just a bunch of BS?

I have an icelink and it works great. Reading your post you just got a very poor shop.

Good Luck with your repairs.

I'm so sorry things didn't work out...make sure that company pays for everything!

there is no way the PIE caused the problem, really they probably just didn't hook up a cable right...I'm sure i could fix the HU/ac not working since if one of two cables are out both go down

as for the damage to the HU, etc....not good, that is going to be expensive to fix...among other things, times, hassle, etc.

keep us updated

Yea, Mazda offered to go ahead and install the icelink for me. They are really good up there - pretty sure they will take good care of it.

Have any of you checked out the Monster iCruise? A friend told me it is set to be available later this month. It uses the graphics display of the head unit to display artist and track info from the iPod. Here's hoping it will support the Mazda head units!

The I cruze could be perfect. Their site is at 20 days and counting. I ordered my U2 (black) Ipod and it will take 3 weeks. This could be great timing. I just hope I don't have to upgrade my HU from 9.50. The black Ipod should look great with the black interior.

I have my iceLINK installed and it's giving me nothing but problems, the HU firmware's 9.55, the iPod's is 2.2 I reset the iPod and I have no steering wheel controls. I was willing to lookt past that and now the audio's going to hell on me, all the vocals have dropped out , not amout of playing with the treb or the bass on the HU itself or the EQ on the iPod is fixing it. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm considering going back to the tape deck connection I was getting better sound out of it then I am now unfortunately. As far as the iCruze is concerned I want to know that it's '04 compatible meaning 9.55 since the 9.67 is for the 05's only, that's what my dealership told me, no use in flashing it to '67 and with my current luck it killing my HU and I get the "well you put in a flash version that wasn't for this model, screw off"

I'm not sure what you just said but most likely a connector is loose, if your dealer installed the thing that is even more reason to suspect its not hooked up right

Well, my dealer had to replace my HU and now it's 9.67, so that argument doesn't hold up.

Just talked with the service manager at Mazda, the damage done by the stereo installation place is $3,000 just for the parts, that price doesn't include labor. They haven't even ordered the parts yet, waiting for the go ahead from the stereo store - I'm getting really impatient and highly pissed off!

there is no way the damage is worth 3 grand!!!!!...your better off selling your car and then taking the 3 grand and getting a newer 8!

your mazda dealership must be really sticking it to the car installation place...if it is a big chain, like best buy or circuit city...I'm all for it...I have no problem with mazda getting the moneys of those mega corps

Also for 3 grand an entire new stereo setup could be installed...probably with a single touchscreen operating the whole system

oh besides the HU is only 237$ the panels constituting the dash, etc is only a few hundred...under a grand tops...3 grand is laughable, UNLESS they damaged some of the airbags

Well I was told what is costing so much is the DVD Nav system. You see - they dinged up the panel around it and Mazda told me that you can't just replace that panel - you have to get a new DVD.

how on earth did they ding up that panel! wow...now I really feel bad for you 8

to do what you wanted them to do just recquired moving that bolt...a few other steps pop the HU out...connect the icelink...and close up shop...sheesh

you better make those installers pay and give you a free rental car!!!!!!!!
