RX-8 iPod with IceLink Installed
Greetings All
So we all know about Densions IceLink, the one that allows you to connect your iPod to your stereo and be able to use the steering wheel and stereo controls to switch through songs right? I have it installed now, last night I went down to their office and was the first RX-8 it was installed on. This isn't a hack, its not a get this and buy this extra piece, its the kit and its completed now
The install process went flawlessly, the most time was taking apart the car to release the car stereo to hook up the IceLink device to it in the back. Simple plug n' play and the iPod is playing thru my car stereo.
The audio quality rocks and the controls are priceless. :D
I have my iPod in my glovebox nice and concealed however the kit came with mounting devices and such. To switch to iPod press the CD button, the stereo will switch from CD to EX. To switch back to CD press the button again. :D
Update: Full IceLink iPod RX-8 Install

Which kit did you purchase? I understood a different product had to be purchased to sit between the ice link and the head unit? Looks like you just plugged it in.
thanks!

There's someone who successfully used the Icelink together with the Alpine PIE interface. So with this new solution one won't need the PIE interface?

can you still use the buttons on the iPod itself? i'd find it hard looking for the exact song i want considering i have over 1000 songs on the iPod and over 10 different folders
also, how do you navigate the folders? is it the same as the MP3 player where you press the up and down buttons on the HU?

Some questions-how did you route the cable into the glove compartment? Did you consider any of their proclip mounts? I'm in Massachusetts, so I do not want to mount over the heating vents (it'd fry in the winter), but there is a proclip that mounts on the lower end of the faceplate of the radio on the passenger side. Did you look at that one?I'm wondering if it will cramp a passenger or prevent the glove compartment from opening. Does the RX8 display count elapsed time in some reasonable manner? The ALP-PIE solution that has been talked about on the forum apparently counts to 10 seconds over and over again!
Sorry about all the questions- just excited about this after waiting sooooooo long!

Titaniumdan, there is a passage when you release the glovebox from the glovebox to the back of the stereo. Tons of room to play around.
I didnt want to do the proclip. Id like to keep everything as hidden as possible. wires non-existant and all. However there are a few places to mount. :D
The counting is the same methods they said they are working on it and also on displaying song names but im not holding my breath. :D
