Does anyone know whether the Denison Icelink interface works with any HU firmware, or only with firmware 9.55 and above as for the Alpine PIE solution? Thanx. Z00m-Z00m, what is your firmware version?

Hold down the text ****, and press down on the preset 1 button for a few seconds. The firmware version should appear.

Just got a reply from Denison on this issue. Their Icelink iPOD interface only works with Head Unit firmware version 9.55 and above. Those in the US with HU firmware before 9.55 can have theirs upgraded by Thew. See this link - https://www.rx8club.com/audio-video-94/firm-ware-upgrade-rx8-audio-head-units-oem-nav-systems-40671/

Unfortunately I have firmware 9.50 and I don't reside in the US. Damnit!
I have given up playing my iPOD in my car. I also tried the iTrip route, but it didn't work for me. I'll probably just get the mp3 cd player for my car. This really sucks.

Unfortunately I don't live in the US. So Thew would not be able to upgrade the HU unless I ship it to him ($$$). I have a JDM RX-8 btw.

Regarding the iTrip, I think it might be broken. I bought it when I was in NY and it was working there although the sound sucked. I tried it when I went to Canada, it stopped working, I thought it might have been interference. When I got back home I tried it again on several different frequencies, but only a very faint sound was coming out, with the radio at full volume.

yeah those FM modulators like the I trip are really problematic...I guess the best thing to do for you is do the CD player hack and solder on some RCAs

a pain in the *** but doable...and if you screw up you can buy another single disk drive on ebay for under $20 since no one wants them

Zoom-zoom...

Does it charge the Ipod also? Is the connection to the Ipod the apple connector or is it a 1/8th phono jack?

I have an iTrip too and may have some tips to get it to work better but it will never sound as good as a dedicated line-in. Anyways, you have to remember to set the volume on your iPod. If it is set too low you won't hear anything. Conversely if you set i too high the signal is overloaded and it sounds like crap. Setting the volume around 1/3 is normally where you will find the cleanest and strongest signal. :D

unless you have a classic ipod, then you need the special charging cable I thought

you will need to connect to ignitioned power or use a simple lighter plug style power adaptor

I got the adapter that www.mp3yourcar.com sells. When I called they asked me if I could take some pictures for them when I install it and in turn they would give me a nice discount but I do not have a digital camera. If any of you guys are thinking about ordering one and have a digital camera I would give them a call and do that deal.

z00m-z00m,
So it turns out that this iPod solution also uses the same Maz/PC-Alp box as has been discussed in the forum elsewhere, but it appears to have a different icelink adapter, which says v1.2 on it. The plug from the PIE to the icelink is much bigger than the one here https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...highlight=Thew in TrueMagellan's post #25. The plug is so big that you cannot put the PIE adapter in the space where a cassette unit would go as in that picture. Where did you put the PIE unit (the rectangular box) so it did not rattle around? Hate them rattles!
Thanks!

Quick question... the firmware version i have in my single cd player headunit is definately below 9.55. My question is i'm planning on getting the MP3 headunit, Now if the firmware on the MP3 headunit I am going to purchase is at or above 9.55, I shouldnt have a problem hooking up an that iceLINK right?

right
but not goign to happen
mazda does not sell the new stuff.. only the old stuff.. so what ever you buy will not be the newest HU out there.. those are in the 2005 cars. I have a HU a member bought just like you and it turned out it was the old Firmware.
