Autopowers roll cage is based off their roll bar. The front part of the cage is welded to the roll bar. The cage portion comes in kit form so it can be installed in the car. It is difficult enough to get the roll bar in place.
I can only imagine how much fun the full 6-pt cage must be to get in. I'm assuming you would have to remove most of the interior and the doors...

^^^ Damn didn't even take into considertion that...The base widht of the crobreau looks to be 18in, will that fit in the rx8?
Does anybody know the dimensions of that tunnel area for a aftermarket seat to go in?
I ordered those memoryfab brackets today and found out they don't carry the rx8 bracket in stock. they told me it will take 6-8 weeks regular shipping or 2 weeks max for air shipment from japan...I opted for the air.

Derex'8 -- any update on the Corbeau FX-1 Pros? I sat in one last week and liked how I fit, but as you mentioned it might be tight to get into the car. Have you tried to fit it yet?
Any comments on the MemoryFab brackets? I put a set on order last night, but they are quoting 8 weeks for the dual locking sliders. Tracks start to open up toward the end of April around here, so it is going to be close...
is autopower the only production cage available? i thought i wanted a cage but now im not so sure, since id have to drive it on the streets and dont relaly wanna lose the air bags either.
are there any other options for roll bars as well? or would autopower be the best route anyway?
post more pics of yours!

The rear post bolt to the wheel well, It looks like it doesn't get in the way of the seats. You will need to modify the plastic trim that goes over the wheel well.

^^ Funny......you can leave the cushions out if you want....you can't sit back there anyway
The rear legs actually sit into the side panels....so the cushions are fine. You need to cut the panel though...and that's a bit nerve wracking

AutoPower Steet / Strip Roll Bar Installed
I just completed the installation of an AutoPower Street/Strip roll bar in my sunroof equipped 8. It was ordered via Io Racing 4/17, two months later I received one made for a non sunroof RX-8 even though my order clearly stated mine was a sunroof 8. AutoPower agreed to send a replacement at no cost. That arrived around the end of July damaged and missing a part. Auto power sent me the missing part a week later; I was able to fix the damage. If I had this to do over again I would get a custom one made by a local welder.
But I had it so here is how the install went. You just need a 3/8” metal drill bit, utility knife, 9/16” sockets & wrenches and a helper. The bar didn’t come painted black; I wouldn’t pay extra for a finish because it would only get scratched up during shipping anyway. I painted it with some Rustoleum. You don’t have to remove the front seats, just bring them all the way forward. You do need to remove the back seats, back armrest panels, lift up the carpet in the rear (or you can leave it and install over the rug). You also need to remove the rear wheels and loosen the rear inner wheel well liner. You can remove the harness bar during the installation.
Take off the rear posts and with a helper carefully place the bar inside the car with the top tilted towards the rear. Once inside you can install the rear posts. You will have to maneuver it around a bit in order to get them on. Once in place the rear feet as far back as you can and drill one hole. Place a bolt in that hole so the leg will not move while you drill the other holes. Keep placing a bolt in the holes to keep the foot from moving. Once all four holes have been drilled place the backing plate on them from underneath the car. Tighten the nuts then place the 2nd nut on the bolt and tighten them. The procedure for the rear posts is similar repeat the same steps for the other side.
After the bar is secured you just have to put the interior back together, the side armrest panel require some trimming with a utility knife to fit around the bar, I didn’t do a good job on that. Some black duct tape and the roll bar padding I used hid most of that. I can fit in the back seat and I’m fat, an average size adult or a kid would be able to sit back there fine. You however cannot walk into the back seat like you could before. The front seats must be moved forward in order to gain access to the rear. Once I finally got an undamaged & correct item it went in easy. It does add about 55 Lbs to the car. Since race seats and belts vary I didn’t get into installing them. But with a harness bar at the correct height putting in a 5-point harness and a video camera mount will be a snap. I hardy ever have rear seat passengers, but the seats can still be used with the Auto Power Street/Strip roll bar.

As long as they wear a flack jacket and a helmet
There is way too much exposed metal to allow passengers without putting them in a dangerous position...
Face it...you have a two seater with nice leather sound deadening now

Also you will have rust problems if you don't prime and urethane in the bolts and brackets. I undercoated the crap out of mine as well. Will be fun to remove that way though...
looks kinda like a roller coaster for the rear passengers! woohoo! you should put a screen behind the front seats and play some crazy roller coaster clip for when you are doing twisties.... hahaha

I did spray undercoating also on the bolts, I just forgot to mention it. The priming & urethane was not done. If you look at this pic from my posts the final bar is mostly covered with padding. I am ok with it plus I have a beater if passengers protest.
They won't protest if you crash hard enough
Good job on the install....if you weren't so damn far away we could compare
Expo, you do run the strap ends back thru the buckle once you go to the track, right? They are a little unsafe the way they are set up in the pics. I will post pics of what I'm talking about if you don't understand.
