Hi,
After seeing the excellent Car-PC threads by Alz0rz etc, I thought I'd have a go myself!

I've been able to remove the OEM LCD and replace it with the Lilliput, however using duck tape to hold it in place isn't going to cut it!

I've noticed mention of people reusing the original frame to 'brace' the new screen, which requires a little modding and cutting to fit hold the screen. However, I can't find any pictures at all.. all references seem to point to the 'Greek' thread.. which is long since gone, the guy's pics have been removed by Yahoo/Geosites etc.

So, the question is, does anybody have those pics saved somewhere, or have pics of their own which could help me out?!

Also, once the breakout cable is attached to the screen, have you guys cut a hole in the rear plastic housing to accomodate the wires?

Although I've never touched the stock navi screen, torn it apart, or tried to fab in an aftermarket screen....

Thought I'd chime and tell you hot glue is a popular choice for "molding" or "holding" odd shaped things in place. Got used a couple times a week at my shop.

Taking the original Navi screen apart is real easy, it's 'sandwiched' between a front and rear plate. This rear plate screws to the front one to keep everything secure.. however it won't fit across the back of the Lilliput screen in it's default state.

Thanks for the tip with the hotglue, I might have to keep that idea in the locker as a backup plan!

When I put my 629 in the OEM housing, I was able to reuse the bracket to help secure the screen. Just the bracket though, not the entire back shield. The 629 is not as thick as the original screen, so I went to Lowe's and picked up some foam weatherstripping (3/8" I believe? Can't remember), and then I cut it into little strips and stuck them on the back of the bracket to make up for the difference in depth of the original screen. I also put one strip on the side of the front of the bracket to keep the screen from being able to be moved side to side. I did not have to modify the bracket at all. Be careful when you're tightening the screws to hold the screen down, or if you decide to go the hot glue route- the 629 is a resistive touch panel, so if it is pressed too tight to the front of the housing, the screen will always be "pressed" in one of the corners.

Also, I did dremel out a small rectangle in the bottom right corner of the back plastic, just big enough for the lilliput side of the breakout cable to fit through, since it doesn't fit through the original slit the OEM ribbon cable used.
