Dear All,
I am an 8 owner as well. My cars comes from Japan and i would like to change my navigation's dvd to a normal DVD player.

I would love to play mp3s from it with visualizations and dvds from the original rx8's screen.

Can i have your solutions on this? Shall i leave the nav and work the dvdplayer as well ? or shall i replace the nav with it.

Please give me my options and the tools that i will need.

May i ask what else will i need to install a DVD player ?
do i need a sound modulator to connect the speakers with the dvd player, will i need the universal video converter for the monitor?

i don't think you need a sound modulator to connect the speakers with the dvd player,just buy the video converter for the dvd like AV Electronic video switcher from mazdaparts which connect it through your navi monitor

 

Can i use a video converter only? it is very expensive for me to buy the av electronic video switcher, i prefer to swap my nav.
Can any1 suggest me a good converter so i can use the new dvd player with the nav's screen ?
I have been told that i will need a modulater as well for the speakers to play from the dvd. Is this wrong ?? Plase advice me. I am a new rx-8 user

 

You will need either a PIE adapter from Mazdaparts.com, or an Audiolink from therpmstore.com. Both adapters plug into your CD Changer/Satellite Radio port on the back of your head unit. The AudioLink gives a 3mm input........while the PIE adapter converts to Mbus and then you can convert that to either a 3mm input or RCA inputs.

Those are your two options for getting sound from a DVD player into your HU. The Video Switcher takes care of all video. As you have found, this is not a cheap mod, but when done correctly it is VERY worthwhile.....just ask Truemagellan.

you actually need a FM modulator to have audio out if you wanna play video on your navi screen.. and there's also another module that you can purchase with a switch which you'd be able to switch from Navi to Video and vise versa... I've converted my navi in my 8 and it works amazing..

 

Can you please suggest on model for the FM modulator ?
