Remote starter for MT

I've been doing some research into car starters and found that having a manual transmission car is pretty pricey.

I was originally looking at the Viper VSS3000 which has the Smart Start feature that can be started from a cell phone. I called Best Buy and they said #1 they wouldn't install on M/T cars and #2 that this wasn't compatible.

Most quotes are in the $600 range installed for a remote starter. Is this what others have paid?

Trying to figure out how to install one myself. I have a Viper 5701, which is known to work with the RX8 MT for Remote Start. I purchased mine from Amazon and yes my Geek Squads refuse to install the remote start... so I am going the route of installing myself...

Haven't start installing yet.

Isn't there just a sensor on the clutch pedal indicating its depressed? Doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to fool a remote start system into thinking the clutch is depressed. Just make sure you dont leave it in gear

Most have a neutral safety switch. It's simply a wire that must be connected to a wire on the trans which signals the remote start system that the car is in neutral. I personally NEVER leave the car in gear when parked. Neutral with the parking brake pulled, every time. With a little know-how, you could rig any remote start system to require the parking brake be pulled before allowing it to function.

$600 does seem a bit steep, but I don't know how much of that is parts. More than about $200-$250 in labor would be a ripoff for sure though. And that's assuming this is a full blown alarm, keyless, remote start install. Not just remote start.

I have the 5901 on my 8, works great lol I don't even use the remote start function anymore just to show off to friends. I can get the wire color and location at work if anyone needs it, either PM or maybe I'll post it here when I have time.
