Well most internet retailers probably figured they could trust the manufacturer themselves.

But like I said, I've been using Metra products for years and years. 95 is always double din.

I am personally impressed with the nx500 sound quality is good. As for the metra questions the one that says double din is the one u should purchase

Also from my readings clarion is deffinatelly improved themselves in overall goodness my whole upgraded system is clarion and the few complaints are smacked out of the way by the things i like about it

Installing the metra system again is a bitch to install (the circuit thing they give u is extremely large and has a hard time fitting behind any DD head unit

As for the Clarion you mentioned, Clarion is a solid brand. But for it's price you could probably get a Pioneer Z110BT. 4V RCAs, a larger screen, customizability of icons/menu screens, and likely better support between the map updates and the avic411 forum. Easy menu system too. If that's too much money, you can get most of that stuff with the X910BT too.
I have the Z110 in my car and it's amazing, it does pretty much everything out of the box and whatever it doesn't do can be added later. So far I've had 3 headunits in my car, a Soundstream, a D-3, and the z110 and the 110 is probably the last radio I'll have in that car forever, unless I go carpc or something.
