Ok thats for the steering wheel control, going back to the other question about the metra kit i believe its called. like the plastics for the double din slot for the alpine radio. Any preferred suggestions? i know there were a couple forums on it, just thought i figured what you guys thought, or which one tony ended up going with.

Have you tried metra themselves?

http://www.metraonline.com/products.aspx

Looks like they also have a steering control unit, maybe if you order both they can offer some kind of package deal. There is a massive thread on the metra kit but I cant quite recall if they had a preferred place to order from.

"Designed specifically for the installation of a single DIN radio"

the other unit they have is half the space (single din)
But this one, which appears to be a double, says it is for a single. error? or am i slow

Thats interesting, usually it comes with one of those frames that you can clip in and a little cubby, so that if you wanted to use it for single or double din you could. Maybe someone can chime in to confirm or deny

well the actual pic of the "real" single din one, has that little black plastic piece. I think that this is a typo..

I didn't use the Metra kit. It hadn't been released yet when I installed my headunit. (As I stated above)

But Crutchfield has it for a great price.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209575...7510HG&tp=3486

And no kit or headunit includes a steering wheel control adapter. You will need to buy the adapter paimon.so linked you to if you buy a Pioneer or Sony headunit. (Slightly different one for other brands, just ask).

Any Metra kit that begins with "99" is for single sin. Any kit that starts with "95" is double din.

If you're using an Alpine, you need the PAC SWI-JACK or SWI-ALP.

Also note, there's no way Metra is going to give you any package deal. It just doesn't work like that with them.

I love that thing, i wish they had one that didn't have navi in it that cost about 300 bucks, i would be all over it. I can deal with using the navi on my phone for that sexy screen and alpine menus. I think i may go with the AVH-P4200DVD soonl.

Sweet unit. No bluetooth though. The cheaper 3200BT has bluetooth, but slightly smaller screen. Think I'd go with that one. Can't live without bluetooth.

True true. I've never had a bluetooth ready device in my car so I cant say that I know what I am missing out on. It is interesting that there isnt a BT version of the 4200 though. I wonder if there is a BT dongle that you can get for it or something.

There is. I have it for my D3. Expensive now that these navi units have dropped in price so much. Think they're like $140.

True. I remember when you had to drop a thou to even have a screen in your car. Let alone navi.

Prior to this, I had a Pioneer P940. Single din. Old school blue OEL two line display that had the dolphins on it. No bluetooth or anything like that. Paid the ONLINE price of $550 for that bad boy......my how times have changed.

EDIT: hahaha! Here it is!
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ers/DEH-P940MP

EDIT: Before that was this beast. lol $470. Jesus.
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ers/DEH-P8200R

Tape deck before that.

Lol i hear ya, i used to work at Circuit City back in the day as a summer job. When I did I was driving an 02 civic and managed to get one of these http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hdtOoIE...-CDA-9813.html, It cost me 250 bucks including all the hardware. The funny thing was, markup was so bad at CC that the actual cost of the unit if you didn't get the discounts was 500 something

edit: sucks, just checked crutch, they dont have the double din kits for the S2 ... god damn subtle differences are killing me lol

Anyone have any experience using JVC navigation units? Namely this one:

http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CDcQ8wIwAg#

Seems to be getting some pretty good reviews and is a "Crutchfield" customer favorite.

Also a pretty sick deal on this Pioneer

just my two cents, BT is worth it. I have the D3 and find myself streaming audio from my phone to the HU often. Nothing like firing up slacker radio to the holiday channel this time of year. It's also very nice when a friend is in the car and has some music on their phone they want me to hear. Pair it up and voila.

Not to mention built in phone support makes for a very clear phone call for both parties on the line.

Used to be. Outdated now. Newer models are much nicer. Much better iPod control being the most important to me.

And laythor, mine streams BT audio, but the sound quality sucks. It sounds like 64kbps or worse. And Sirius sound quality sucks too. Same bitrate if I recall from the Sirius website. I was quite disappointed by both of these. I didn't dump $2k into my stereo to feed it garbage in.

Not sure why yours is coming out so poorly. Audio that's stored on the phone sounds decent, not great, but decent. Streamed audio is compressed so much that it's always going to be "iffy" but listenable.

I dont even want to think what i've spent replacing the HU, all the speakers, adding a sub, replacing the stock bose amp...

Parked, with the engine off my set up is very clean and a joy to listen to. Bombing down the free way with a CAI and catless midpipe, i'm just happy to hear anything

Nx 500

I recently installed the Nx500 with Metra kit, plus ran some subs. The nx500 has limited setting when an Iphone or Ipod is attached you have to use the head unit to control it. No option not too do it that way,
volume levels are odd level 1 is like 6-7 on the stock head unit.
Ups are the many features Av, Aux Bluetooth (Thats a bitch without the firmware upgrade) you can also get attachments for the steering wheel controls backup camera Dvd Usb Free Gps (Looks odd but it works well)
Overall Ive heard the nx700 is a better unit but if you can get the 500 for 550$ cad like i did then go for that.
Metra kit and steering wheel attachments are obviously extra $$$ and a huge bitch (IE you plug one plug in the wrong place you kill the switch)

95's look like single they even come with the single plastic peace to sit flat around the single unit..
the 99' looks to have a double din, even tho the description says single...but theres no way thats single..even the mounting brackets are bigger.

and apparently they do not ship to consumers....only shops? and with the alpine iwa900 this is a double din correct?

Is Clarion now a big player in the quality market? You will have to forgive me, I am going on what I remember from back when I used to work at CC, but I remember Clarions' being garbage head units.

I'm positive. All of Metra's products have been that way for as long as I can remember. That pic looks like it's from the Metra website though....

And that is correct. Metra is not a small company. You cannot buy directly from them.

EDIT: It's a misprint. Click on one of the kits. The description is correct. Shows a picture of a single din, but then says it fits double-din headunits lol.

yeah i ended up calling them and they said that the 95's where for the double dins, and i also told them about the site, and like a retard asked the questions, "so your telling me if i purchase this 95 it will fit a 7" screen?" lol he said yes....

so now i have to find a dealer around here that sells them, or try online..
