Is anyone aware of a LCD Display unit that would fit into the Audio console slot (taking out the stock unit) that would connect to a wirelessly mounted rear-view camera system and can connect to your Mp3 player/ipod and display the music titles and everything else while not in use? The only display system I am aware of is a GPS system and I don't know if they would play MP3s/can connect to iPods or even connect to a rear view camera system. Does anyone know?

 

Any major brand indash GPS unit has a connection specifically for rear view cameras. And of course they play and display MP3s, iPod info, and much more. Look to spend anywhere from $400-$1000 for one. Plus the metra installation kit ~$150, rear view camera add-on ~$100, labor for it all ~$150.

 

Thanks, what are some of the "major" brands out there? And so does the GPS screen replace the whole audio console or does it just connect to the existing audio in-dash console?

 

Pioneer. Alpine. Kenwood. JVC. Those are about the only ones I'd suggest for an indash navi unit.

The unit would replace the factory radio. If you have factory navi, the screen will remain. Here's a pic of the kit.


Check the pics of my car in my sig. That's an older version of an RX8 kit, but it's close to the same thing. Just to give you an idea.

It will fit I have a similar system in mine. It is just a double din which, with the Metra kit will integrate perfectly with your very own RX8

 

Don't trust their dumb little "does it fit?" selection. That goes for crutchfield or any place else. The pioneer unit I linked to is a standard double din size. The Metra kit, built specifically for the RX8, allows any standard double din sized unit to fit.

The combo deal below the picture is a good deal too. $618 for the headunit, iPod cable, and adapter to allow your steering wheel controls to keep working. $150 for the Metra kit, then purchase any rear view camera that has composite video output (single yellow RCA plug), and labor to install it all. If you live in Central Florida, I'll do it.
