Radar Detector Power Source

I currently have my radar on my windshield, with the power hanging down and going into the front power outlet. I just bought an after-market nav unit, and couple with my iPod, I am officially short on outlets. So what I want to do, and I'm wondering if anyone else has done, is tap into the power source on the overhead console, either where the lights are or where the sunroof is, and use that to power my radar. Then I'd just plug the Nav into the outlet and keep the ipod in the center and everyone's happy.

Tie it into the power supply to the HomeLink in the rear-view mirror.

It is constant when the ignition is on.

And it has enough power? That would be great, not like I have a garage or anything :-)

there are links for this in the DIY forum, someone mentioned a short out of some of there electrical system by linking into homelink, but it sounded more like they did a bad install

put it all directly into the fuse box...forget the car adapters (otherwise it looks like a girls bathroom)

This is how I have mine setup. I don't recall which wires I spliced, but it is obvious in the wiring diagram, so you should have no problem.

Just solder everything and use shrink tubing to prevent shorts.

You can also get power off the overhead console. Check out my DIY thread on LED map lights here to see how.
