Quick Sub Setup Question

Ok, So I have been reading posts all night and im starting to get confused on what exactly I need.

I have two 12" pioneer 800watt subs, a sub box, and a 1600watt ultra linear 2 channel amp. I have the bose system in my 04 RX8.

I am planning on going to best buy to have this installed, and from what I understand in the other threads, I will need a line output converter, and I should tell them to splice it in after the bose amp, into the wire going into the rear 6x9 speakers.

Is this right? Will I need anything else? Or is there somewhere else I should have them hook this up?

Thanks, Sean.

Sounds good. You'll need power wiring for the amp too.

PS.... you can't do this yourself?

And you'll be at least $100 richer...

I think there's enough walkthroughs on here for, even a first timer, to do it right. BY FAR the hardest part is going to be running the power wire through the firewall. But we have several walkthroughs on that for several different spots you can do it.

Run the power wire from the battery to rear of car.
Easy dissasemble middle console to reach rear cig lighter and tap into green wire for remote turn on. Run that to rear of car.
Tap into the rear speaker wires for one of the rear speakers with the line output converter. How could you screw that up. Two wires = two wires.
Find a ground location under the trunk carpet, scrape off the paint and attach your ground wire.
Connect everything to the amp and mount it in a suitable location.

If you honestly don't feel like you can handle/want to spend the time on it...... by all means, take it to Best Buy. Rather that then see someone half *** it. lol

that doesnt sound too bad at all. on the loc, i just tap into one speakers' wire, or do i have to trace back somewhere? i guess that is just where i was confused.

Nope. You can tap right at the wires as they connect into the speaker. You can do only one speaker if you wish. Just tie both the positives together on the LOC and both the negatives together, then splice them in. It works perfectly fine. Or you can tap one from each speaker. If you tap both rear speakers, the subs will not be affected by the "balance" adjustment on your headunit. ... ... but really, who uses that anyway. lol

You'll be fine with any around the $20 range.

If you buy it from Best Buy, I believe they're $25. A 2-channel one is perfectly fine. You have all the amp wiring too, including RCAs?

best buy is actually about an hour and a half from my town, so I ran to wal mart to see what they have and they have an adjustable output converter for $17, but I dont know if its any good or not. Its scosche.

Also, i have a 1600w amp for two 12's, do I need the "1600watt amp kit" at wal mart? Its $80 vs. the other ones that are only $25-$35.

You need 4 gauge wire. Whatever kit that is. The "XXXX" rating on the package is worthless.

I don't know how quickly you're looking to do this install, but order online.
Amp kit: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDe...?prodID=KLM-K4

LOC: http://www.davidnavone.com/

A lot of people are satisfied with those LOCs. He offers one with a remote turn on lead built in. Dont think anyone here has used it yet. Sure would be awesome if it worked. Save you removing the center console. (Not that that's hard, but it IS more work)

Alright, went with the loc and amp kit that you suggested. Now Im having problems with my setup and need some help again.

I installed the loc just like it told me, wire the power, ground and remote wires to amp....then left +/- and right +/- to corresponding rear speakers .....Then I ran the rca's down to the amp and everything should work fine right? But the problem is, only the left side will play. I checked my wiring 15 times, and even tried just wiring both sides of the loc to one rear speaker. Either way, it still only plays one sub.

Is this possibly a problem with my amp? (which was brand new), or a problem with the loc? Or am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quite certain nothing is wrong with the LOC or how you installed it. I would need more info about the amp (such as a model number) and more info about the subwoofers (model number). Also how do you have them wired to the amp? Pictures often say 1000 words.
