Product Alert! Broken E-Brake!
Product Alert! Broken E-Brake!
Yes, I know I spelled brake wrong in the picture.
Anyways, I was cleaning my car today and discovered that part of the emergency brake was broken. Since I am the only one who uses the car and I am pretty careful while I am in it I highly doubt it was deliberate. Looking at the piece the only way it could have broken off like that was due to faulty craftmanship.
Anyone else have a similiar experience? I'll talk to mazda about it and get back to you guys and gals.

I purchased my 8 used, but if it is the same spot...mine was broken there also. Is the area under the e-brake visible when you pull it up? That is exactly where mine is broken. I was not sure if I could pursue this since I was not CERTAIN it was actually broken or just some sad fit and finish work. I did assume broken, however.
Same story as Robbz23 here... pulled the head unit out on Saturday to install the iPod AUXMOD and noticed the broken piece. At first I thought I may have done it when I removed the center console, but I can't find the broken plastic and I can't see how I would have broken it off. Can anyone provide details as to how this should be fixed?

Known issue. This could be the next TSB. Mine has broken for the 2nd time. I'm waiting for the weather to get warmer before getting it fixed again. Check my previous post here along with older threads:

Have the same exact problem. I tried to do a search, but this thread didn't come up when I posted mine yesterday here:
Broken Emergency Brake Housing
Annoying, and I'll have to get it fixed - but the thought of it just breaking again next winter is frustrating to say the least. Seems like they have had quite a few issues with their plastics. A/C bittons cracking, center consoles breaking, E-Brakes, Visors, what's next?
The one positive has been, the E-Brake has never worked smoother, and sits flat now!

I found this photo posted in another thread concerning removing the old hand brake and installing a less-busy one. If I understand what this photo shows, the broken piece many of us have experienced is very long -- far longer than I thought it was. I'm curious as to how the Mazda mechanics are fixing this problem, and wondering where in the world my broken piece got to -- it doesn't appear to be anywhere inside the center console or outside the console.
