Powered Sub idea...

Powered Sub idea...
I posted this in my intro thread but I am about to pull the trigger on this and was hoping for a quick response... Thanks in advance.
I like the stock system but would like a little more on the low end. Kenwood makes a powered sub that fits in the dip in the trunk. I want to be able to fit golf clubs in the back but I am not even sure if you would hear this over the existing system. I even considered cutting a port in the compartment that opens for skis and adding a grill. Has anyone tried this? if i covered it with plexi and added lights it may even look cool.

The Kenwood KSC-SW10 powered subwoofer might look small, but it delivers impressive bass. This little powerhouse will fit under a seat in most vehicles, where it'll produce low-frequency response equal to that of a larger subwoofer in your trunk. It offers a great solution for those who want to reinforce the bass in their system without taking up a lot of space.
Kenwood uses passive-radiator technology to get the biggest bang possible from such a small enclosure. The built-in amplifier powers the 5"x7" woofer, and the air pressure from the powered speaker moves a non-powered 5"x7" cone next to it, augmenting overall production.
The rigid die-cast enclosure minimizes rattles, while the durable built-in amplifier feeds the speaker up to 150 watts. Kenwood throws in a wired remote, so you can control the bass from the driver's seat. A wiring harness and mounting brackets are also included.

Grungepup just put in the Infiniti Basslink and it sounds great. he also has Kenwood 6x9's in the rear. It has better specs. You would cry if you knew what he paid on craigslist for it.

Yea, I read an article on the Basslink vs. this Kenwood and it was a wash... if anything the Kenwood came out on top. I just like how it fits perfect in that little useless space in the trunk. Did he just replace the 6x9's or did he power them sep. I don't want to get into a whole system as the stock Bose is ok. (for now)
This thing just looks almost built for the RX8... i just cant figure how they get the bass they claim off these specs.
They are going for $130 new in some places. I am sure it would look slick i just question if i would even hear the thing.

I dunno, the Basslink hits pretty hard and is very clear. The 6 x 9's are wired to the stock Bose amps I believe but the addition of the Basslink was very noticeable but not overwhelming. i will let him comment.

Thanks for the advice... and this is the article.

I have heard the Basslink and it was impressive. (not in an 8) The Basslink is what got me thinking (all this stock system needs is a lil fill in bass) Then i came across that kenwood thing. I think my idea is solid in terms of how it could look in that space but I just can't see how it sounds like a 10. The review said it did.

Ok I have arrived....
I recently had 2 12" kicker comp's with a 1000w kenwood amp, and that was way too much for my taste. ( not to mention the weight alone made it look like i was lowered in the rear) I sold that set up and was looking for a single sub with amp. I came across the Basslink and got it at a STEAL!!!!!, I really wasn't expecting much but to my amazement this thing is perfect for the 8. The space needed for this is minimal too as you can mount it to a piece of board and slide it up tucked in a corner. Once tuned in the bass hits just right to fill in the gaps. I would also suggest upgrading the rear 6x9's, with just those alone the sound is much better. EBay has a good deal on the basslinks right now, much less than cost. If you have anything else feel free to PM and I will try to help in anyway possible

so I finally did the final set up and wiring of the Basslink and I have to say I love it. It hits pretty good. I like how its loud inside the car but not loud enough to rattle the exterior or too loud to be obnoxious to the other drivers.

mark1007, you'll have to let us know how it turns out for you if you go with the Kenwood. I'm at a toss up myself which to get now, this or the Basslink. I'm leaning toward the Kenwood now though for the same reason you are, and I think it looks nicer.

kenwood...
I would like to know the model Kenwood however.
Mr Adam: I haven't done this yet as the snow here has been insane and I don't have a garage, just a carport. Funny here i am bitching to someone in Canada about the snow. I havent even driven the car in months. Anyway, I still plan on the Kenwood sub, I think it looks better too. If I do a good job on the work (plexi lighting) it could really add something. I just wish I had a better understanding of how those 2 little speakers could bang. The basslink is easy... its a 10' with an amp.
What sucks is I bet these 6'9's are going to cost more then the sub. I will do it if it matters that much. I question Bose stock being that much less then premier Kenwoods.

I went ahead and picked one of these up and am going to be putting it in this weekend (going to start tonight). I'll let you know how it sounds in the trunk.
Strangely, its beautiful here today (+10 C) and almost all our snow is gone! This is probably the perfect weekend for me to do this.

I haven't gotten around to sorting out my profile... but i am in south virginia. wtf with the snow.
YES!!! i am so happy you jumped on this before i did (sorry but id rather see how it sounds before i buy) did you consider porting that ski hatch thing? i am sure that would help. i have an extra kenwood grill i would be happy to send you if you do. i put kenwood door speakers in my girls toyota and they are just spare and would fit perfect. if you light the trunk you would see the light shine through the grill.
as you can see i have thought this through...
