Materials that went into the install (power tools, wood, mdf, plexi, vinyl, etc.. ) ran me about $500. This was my second install; the first was in my wrx... http://www.nationalcustomcarassocia...t4/IMG_0203.jpg

That is WHY I did not do that, can you say obsessive compulsive disorder?

I have one sub, one 6 channel amp, and that amp completely fills up the well in the trunk, big amp and a cap and one 10 inch sub, it matches and it works. and guess what, I was thinking about the weight, and performance, as it is an rx8, if I wanted to put a system like that in, I would have put it in a ford excursion, maybe this dude has a small *****?

Whoa, there, tough guy. It's a show car and a show system. Comments like that have no place here.

Look, you can wear your american flag on your sleeve, but freedom of speech is just that, yes I served my country for 15 years in the military, so if I want to say what is on my mind I will, so kiss my *** with your George Bush sponsored censorship

I'll take critique pretty well... let me have it!

shawrf1....very nice buddy!! Youre listed as being in Cali...the license plate in pic one says "...lonestar state...". Are you originally from Texas? If so, where?

Looks great, but I have a slew of questions:

Did you keep the stock HU? If so, what was your choice to interface to the amps?

How much weight did you add and has it noticably affected drivability? In the future, I'd love to do something similar (maybe a bit less showy) but adding all that weight to the trunk concerns me. I love attacking the twisties and don't want to sacrifice the handling all that much. However, I guess the added weight may help the car keep traction on launches :D.

Did you install any equalization equipment?

What is the make-up of your front stage?

Finally, how's it sound?

irish: I bought/registered the car in TX while I was stationed there last year... sorry, not a native!

dream: I will be keeping the stock HU, using a Scosche speaker-level converter, no equalizer... I'll have to play with it as I go. I still need to make pods for the JBL GTi component speakers for the front doors, as well as install the rears, so the HU is still feeding the stock speakers until I can get back to work on it. I haven't been able to drive it hard, but the weight is definitely affecting the rear ride height (need to adjust coilovers).

When I'm done, I'll try to comment on the sound, but, as I mentioned before, this is only my second install and I cannot claim to be an expert... not enough to comment on it coherently. All I know is that I used a box calculator to build the enclosures... how everything sounds will have to wait...

Dang, are those the JBL 5000W 12" subs? I've never actually seen them in an install. They're just too crazy to be practical.

The new JBL 2200W Amps are much nicer than the last generation. They really take to the lighting. Very impressive looking setup.

Now, the real question is: How does it sound?

Regards,

OverLOAD

Keep guessing on the labor! Give me some likely $$ amounts...
Hey shawrf1,

Drop me a PM if you are still at Gordon... as I am there as well. Surely, we can do lunch.

We all still drive 8's. We all still cram junk in the trunk. Long live the revival!
