Parking lights engage on unlock

I want my parking lights to come on when I unlock my car. End of story. does anyone have any idea how to do this? The only way i can see doing it is to tap into the dome or puddle lights... this would work great, BUT then I wouldnt have control over turning them on/off freely.. only by the discretion of the puddle lights... and of course they are only on when the door is open or its freshly unlicked... and idk about you guys, but i like to ride with my parking lights on 24/7. Please let me know of your suggestions!!

There's a reason they're called parking lights, and not driving around lights. In most states it is illegal to drive around with only your parking lights on. Check the DMV website of your state, in California it's specifically forbidden with a link to the corresponding vehicle code.

If you want increased visibility, turn on your head lights

thats really strange, because prolly 1 in every 3 cars I see in Alabama have their parking lihgts one while driving.. i dont see why it would be illegal either. I would actually encourage people to drive with them on, not for visibility reasons, but for the other drivers' sake. either way my qs hasnt been answered, but thanks for enlightening me on this legality Ive never heard of. More bs for me to research on a rainy day

lol I'm sure the OP uses his headlights at night. I think he just means during the day/early into the evening.

I love my running lights too, ever since I swapped out those dull yellow bulbs for white LEDs. This is a cool idea.

Parking lights are different than daytime running lights. Let's understand that first. And I'm pretty sure Laythor is correct. I live in Florida, so I never really cared. I can roll down main street in a go-kart and flashlight.

If you want them to be on all the time, wire them to ignition. Not sure of voltage or current required, so you'd have to look that up. If they require more than a few amps, it's probably best to wire them to the battery and then triggered with a relay and ignition source.

I'm not 100% on exactly what you're looking for. But if you want to wire them to the dome lights, then do the same thing as above, except use the dome light wire as the trigger instead of any ignition wire.

yes, just to clarify I am not talking about daytime running lights. I am talking about the RX8 parking lights. Our car doesnt have daytime running lights and driving around with your parking lights only on is illegal in most states.

If you want increased visibility of your car to other people, just turn on your headlights during the day.

daytime running lights are illegal not to have here in canada, not sure when the law came to be, but from a certain year a car has to have them, if you import an rx8 into canada and it has no daytime running lights, thats one of the mods you are required to do, why not just use leds for parking lights and have a switch inside, correct me if i'm way off lol, but just a thought
