Because it's probably cheaper and once it's available, it's easier to get.

$300 versus $1200+, and an LCD that I will immediately throw away since I want to install my own 7" TFT

For *anyone* who wants to install a CarPC, it's actually a no brainer.....if you want to install only a Nav system, then it's a different story....

Why do you change your wheels when you may buy a whole new car?

Let me rephrase since you guys think i want to buy the entire nav system...

"Navi dash" as in the housing and mechanized movement say... on ebay, or once before on here, for waaaaay under this 1200+ number you got. Thats what i'm asking; not the screen, the navigation system, or the mazda oem price.

I'm looking for something that blends into the dash smoothly when the car isnt on (and hiding itself automatically is definitely a plus), just in case someone goes past the point of "windowshopping" my car. Definitely would take it without the normal screen. CarPC is the main interest here.

That in mind, just curious if i'm missing something.

I think you've got it ph0tic...let me try to explain for all.

The going price for a mint condition (although used) factory nav hood is approximately $1000, new is around $1200, and one that was severely damaged (cosmetically a mess) for over $600 on ebay.

If I can provide this retractable LCD dash NEW for $350 (which I will have the set price most likely in a matter of days) I think people will happily sacrifice the motorized aspect. I wouldn't be surprised if some of you somehow motorize this thing anyway (do I hear DIY? )

I hope you all like it...I have lots of local MN RX-club guys who want to stop by and see this thing when it arrives...they can post here their feelings as well if the pictures don't do it justice (I'll do my best ).

Best Regards,

Jason

I would really like to see some pics on how this unit operates. It looks like the factory dash could be easily modified to support a mechanism that would do this. I really want a lcd screen but I dont want to sacrifice looks for function.

Talking

It has been unbelievably busy lately with orders (always good thing ) and the truth is this part arrived late last week and I just unboxed one for pics...it is a beauty.

There is a hidden metal mounting system for the LCD and a track the allows it to slide out. Then you tilt up the screen and a geared system keeps it from moving while you drive. The piece includes the entire dash piece so you need not cut out yours (in fact you could sell your original dash piece on the forums ).

Bose/Non Bose owners no worries comes with a cover for the speaker hole that looks great.

I have scanned the PDF of the instructions which is attached to this post...Japan8 you can enjoy the first look.

I do have access to the M3 and M6 versions although i do not have a unit yet to review...I need to talk with the M3 and M6 guys first to see if they are interested.

I will post pics later once I load the product on the website as I need to prep them for uploading anyhow.

Thank you again for the outstanding interest!

Read the instructions over... looking good! You do have to assembly it all for yourself though...
