Question Need help on DIY hidden compartment from oem nav display housing

Hi guys,

I need help for buying and installing flip screen compartment.
(compartment only, not even screen)

The story is :

I did not have build-in nav because I perfer after market GPS more since it can do more thing, like mine came with bluetooth hand free and trafic report.
I also did radio AUX-in mod so I could transfer nav guidance, MP3 and voice call to my car stereo.

However, I did not realize a problem.
My 8 had side windows smashed and my Garmin was gone a while ago. Even I hide the unit, charger and window mount, I guess someone saw my suction cup trace on the wind shield.

Now I remove everything and also wipe my wind shield everytime.
Still, removing everything everytime is a pain in the a_s.

So, my plan is creating hidden compartment which automaticly open when start and hide when stop.
I think OEM nav flip screen housing, without display unit, shoud do the job.

Instead of oem 7" screen, if posible, there should be enought space in store 4.3" Nav + soon to come OBDII reader.

I need your help because I am not familiar with oem nav.
Any possibillty to install only screen housing with no other units on non Bose 8? Can I make it automatic show/hide when car start/stop?
What part will I need?

Thank you every one.
If it posible and I did it. I will write DIY as thanks.

Thanks again,
Tony

^^"
Still working on it....
I think I've read almost every posting around here.
Seems very difficult. I saw one thread about circuit and motorize for touch screen LCD panel for non-nav 8. Looks like we need that circuit to make it works.

mazdaparts have the manual flip for 7" . Its just like the stock nav one but no motor. I plan on getting it and and motorize it myself for my flip up gauges .

I install a single din flip dvd player there, but will remove it and put it down where thet stock head unit is.
if you get the flip up nav. You will need to cut your stock up to fit it. You can splice the speaker and power into your head unit wires.
Now the good part is that your head unit will still work and your new system will work

Pm me if you have any questions

However, I just want a space that we can hide portable GPS (those with windows mount).
