Hi I am new to the forum and very new to rx8's as a whole I purchased a 2004 from an auction today and notice it is equipped with the factory navigation... The issue is the screen will not open on its own when the button is pressed... it will close with the button though.... also the screen shows nothing do i have to turn it on somehow or is the screen just faulty? HELP Would Be Greatly Appreciated

 

Did it come with the navi disk?

 

Yes i have the nav disc...

 

Ok i haveconcluded that the nav screen is either done for or not receiving power... Does anyone know the steps to removing it or where I can find a write up... I have searched but most write ups are on converting to carputers... Thanks

 

If the motorized hood will only work in one direction (open but not close or vice versa), then the hood motor circuitry is getting power but likely somehow lost calibration. The LCD screen gets power from the same harness, but will not turn itself on until the hood senses it is all the way up, which could be never in this case.

Removal is simple: pop off the gear shift plastic piece, remove screws for ash tray/power outlet, pull it out. Remove screws for headunit (don't forget the hidden bolt) and remove head unit. Remove 2 screws for vents, pop them out. Remove 2 screws for navi hood and carefully pop it out.

Search back through my posts and somewhere I've explained how to recalibrate the potentiometer to reset the motor position. It involves pulling out a little black gear from an opening in the side of the navi hood, pressing the open/close button a couple of times to let the motor spin, and re-installing said gear. Of course power needs to be applied during the process.

If you need more help removing the interior of the car to get to the navi hood, find the links to the factory service manual on the site. It has all sorts of helpful diagrams and step by step instructions.

Here's a video walkthrough on removing up to the headunit. From there, you're just working your way up the dash. Take out the A/C vents with the two bolts that will then be exposed. The the navi hood.

I have the same issue, and is there a way to provide power to the motorized hood while it is out of the car so I can fix the gear?

I installed my new HU with navi and already have the entire dash put back together.

 

no luck recalibrating the gear the rod still doesn't want to turn to the open position I can manually turn it and press the open button and it just returns to closed position.... oh well i did at least get to see how the nav works... not what i was expecting.

OAN: Now the radio and ac display is not coming on... all the backlights work but no function from the radio buttons...the steering wheel controls do work the radio still what could i have missed when putting it back together... i have checked the connections i know of

 

Press on the center of the headunit faceplate. There is a set of pressure pins back there that need a solid connection. If this fixes your problem, you may have to take the radio out and tighten the screws that attach the face of the headunit to the chassis of the headunit.
