mp3 head unit installed, says check cd

I installed the mp3 head unit over the weekend. Everything works perfect, cd player plays normal cd's fine. Heater/AC work. Display works. The only problem is that a data cd I wrote will not play. Noone has mentioned any certain disks not playing in the rx8, I thought maybe it was a problem with my Verbatim cd's. I tried it twice, once with the Windows cd write folder, once with the installed cdwrite software on my wife's laptop. CD says Reading for a minute, then says Check Disk.

Question is, is there anything I may be doing incorrectly as to writing a simple data disk that would cause it to not work? Is there anyway I could have done something wrong in the install when everything else works?

Are you burning the disk with data folders in them?

I know I used to do this with my Pioneer unit and it worked GREAT but I'm not sure if the Mazda mp3 unit can read them that way...

I did at first (also have pioneer in my jeep that works that way), then tried without folders. Still didn't work.

ok question retracted. was just driving, thought wtf and tried throwing the data cd in again. this time, it loaded. there must be something with the thickness of the verbatims disks I used, sometimes it gets a read, sometimes it doesn't.

It will work fine with folders. It will actually sort them (just not into sub-folders). I would try some other disks. I haven't had any cd that mine couldn't read. I even had some of the verbatims that are "vinyl". They seem really thick. Did you buy it new?

No, No, and no. You seem to have done everything right if it reads sometimes.

I assume you mean the headunit, yes it was new, got it from the dealer. the verbatims I was using were from a generic 100cd bundle. I can definitely tell a difference between it and a regular cd, I'm going to try a different brand and see if I get the Check Disk message again.
