Unhappy more headunit questions......

I know this topic has been covered several different times and in several different ways. I've done a lot of searching and I'm still left with questions. forgive me for asking the same old questions but I feel like I'm just spinning my wheels here.

here's the deal. I'm looking at buying an 04 8 with the 6 disc changer. my problems are this; I have a Kenwood HU that I really don't want to give up but I will if I must. I really don't like the idea of not having my Sirius as a result or not having the ability to listen to my mp3 cds as well. I know that without buying the corksport kit or the speedline kit I won't be able to use my Kenwood HU. I could deal with having one of the portable Sirius units but it's not ideal. the mp3's are another story. most of my music is on mp3 cd and I'd have to spend a bunch of time burning cds and it's just too much of a pain in the ***. I can't afford the corksport kit, plain and simple. the speedline kit looks like it might be an option but I can't find anywhere to get it and I have no idea how I'd go about installing my Kenwood without screwing up the climate control.

I hate to say it but this could be a deal breaker for me getting this car. I really need to figure out a way to get what I want out of the stereo without needing a ton of money or an act of congress. I'm glad I did some looking around before buying the car that's for sure. can you guys give me some advice? what would you do?

You can buy a mp3 adapter unit for the Bose as well as a replacement sat. radio unit. see if the dealer will make a deal to install these units as part of the deal.

Use an MP3 player with one of the many hardwire adapters available for the 8. I recommend the Audiolink. (could find it used for 30 bucks prolly)

As for satellite radio, I think 8's with a certain firmware have the ability built into the headunit???? I don't know the details, never been interested in it. One of the portable unit would work. Sirius makes an FM modulator for like 30 bucks. Perfect sound quality with a portable unit.

And if you're gonna let the fact you have to have a portable satellite radio break the deal on your 8.......

i though the Bose HU was only a single disc and this one has the 6 disc. are you saying that i would need to find a factory Bose unit and then get the mp3 adapter? i'm a little confused.

There are two ports on the back of the RX8 Bose HU.
You can use one for Sirius and one for and mp3 player/IPOD adapter. Or you can change to the mp3 single disc player in the HU.

Edit: Wow, quick responses..

Bose is the maker for all the head units for the 8's. The newer 8's have units with the sat. system built in. The system also has upgrade capability for adding an MP3. May I suggest you go to service/parts part of the dealer and they can show you in detail of what we are explaining. .Also beware that replacing to a non Bose head unit may mean replacing all the speakers due to differing ohm impedence and the loss of steering wheel controls, as well as the dash readout.

to kind of clarify - when you get the car you can get one with bose or one without bose - the only thing it's going to change is the speakers and amps. the HUs are basically the same (I'm 80% sure) except for a wire harness to hook to the bose amps

now a seperate part from the HU is a CD player module - and a seperate module for a tape or Minidisk player

the cd player module can be swapped for single disk regular cd - single disk MP3 cd - or 6 disk regular cd

yours has the 6 disk. which makes no difference on anything except it can't play MP3 cds.

the units also come with a sirius option - you will have to talk to your dealer about getting a built-in sirius radio added onto your car

or you can do like I did - and get an "auxmod" adaptor or something similar that plugs into where the tape player would and gives you a "line in" so when you put your HU on "tape" you hear whatever you have plugged into your auxmod. I did that with a sirius S50 and it worked GREAT

or you can get the wired in IPod adaptors that were covered in another post - I'm no expert on these but I know they exist

now for your HU that you want to add - your going to have to get the corksport kit if you want it.. thats just the way it is.. just hang on to your HU and save up some money.. it's not like you won't have any music or anything untill you can install it

I think thats about it.. i hope this helps...

thanks for the clarification. it did help.

also, i saw you install on the s50. sirius offers a part that more or less uses the factory antenna plug and adds the aux plug for the plug and play units. clicky had anyone used one or does anyone know what the sound quality would be like while using this? i'm trying to decide if i should go with this part or the auxmod.
