middle rear seat 8" sub
Hey guys, I was thinking of putting in a 8" sub between the two rear seats like I have seen in some of the newer eclipse's... I don't want to lose any trunk space so thats the reason I want to do this plus I have the bose stock speakers and I just want a little more bass but not enough to shake my license plate loose . Any idea's, thoughts, price guess, type of sub, type of amp?

I used to have one like that.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/installed-custom-stealth-sub-box-between-rear-seats-mp3-player-amp-38560/
It was very pretty but (not surprisingly) it didn't go low enough. The one 8" sub with such a small box is simply not sufficient IMO (and I'm not a bass junkie by any means).
I was not happy with it's performance, so I sold it. Lost plenty of money on the transaction. I'm now much happier with the 4080 box and the 10" Infinity Kappa sub I have, and it doesn't really take that significant trunk space at all. I'd advise to rather go this route than the 8" sub.

Yep. I put a 10" Basslink in the trunk. Takes up almost no room and sounds great.

What I meant is that the 8" sub and the smallish box combined did not give enough deep fill what I was after. The amp is not the problem, because I'm still using the very same amp with my current sub, and that setup gives me what I need. I'm driving a 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect woofer in a 4080 enclosure.
The box really doesn't take much useful space, this is how it looks now. As you can see, it is in the corner, so the lost space is negligible.
And thanks for the kind words, but my knowledge about this stuff is really minuscule. There are plenty of people here who know very well what they are talking about when it comes to audio stuff - read back the posts and you'll quickly figure out who they are

so I don't have the money for either right now but it sounds like if I did the midmount it would not be as clear of a sound and maybe not enough bass... but the 10" is going to run me about 1000 dollars installed... decisions decisions...

do your self a favor and go with the 8 inch if you decide to go with the in between the seats route. i got a ten inch, and am having to do a lot of custom work. but i would never settle for an 8 anyways :P

Here is an easy solution...
1- 8" self amplified Bazooka Bass tube... It would fit against the backseat and take up minimal room. Do not let the 8" size fool you. It's sound is equilvalant to a 10" regular sub box...

It's going to be hard to find a shop that has an 8" sub installed in a manner that will really show off what it's capable of. It'll need to be in a bigger box (bigger for an 8, not a big *** box) and in a small'ish room. An 8" sub in a standard listening room mounted to the wall like the components are mounted will barely give you an idea of what it's capable of. Just be sure you get one that moves some air. An 8" sub doesn't allow a whole hell of a lot of cone area to move air (which makes sound), so it'll need to be a pretty high excursion driver to do the trick. I can't think of the names of the companies now, but look around the internet for subs with XBL^2 motors. Resonant Engineering makes (or made) them, and there are now a lot fo internet companies making them now. That motor design allows for really long throw subs with killer cone control...meaning they push a lot of air but do it with great sound quality. A lot of them are really affordable for what you get too. the only issue you may find is their size. The XBL^2 motors are inherently large, sometimes as large as the cone/basket. It won't be a 200lbs monster, but it'll be a hell of a lot bigger than a JL 8w3

Love the rotary grill Tamas.
Dude, seriously look into the BassLink. 10", 200W, simple install (see link above) and under $200. Not as neat a finished product as the 4080, and likely not as clean, but it does the job much better than a zook tube and is a better install - takes us as little space as the 4080
