Would you really have to sand out all of the clear? What would happen if you just lightly sand the clear, then paint over that?

I was not trying to challenge your skills, quite the opposite. I was just wondering from your experience, what would happen if you don't remove all of the clear coat from the old finish.

I have the single din, install was kinda a pain with the black box they send with the kit, dont really give you slack to put it where ever you want which would of been nice, and the indash dvd player i had also had a black bulky fuse box with it so getting it all in there was kind of a pain but it worked out, I will have pix up asap.

so how is the high gloss paint in your opinion? is it really an off-black color that gives off a green tint under sunlight? how about the clear coat?

the color and the paint i am very happy with, i dont see why some people are un happy with the color, maybe they are just picky or got some that really did have problems with the paint, i would say just order it and when you get it you will see if you like it or not.

Everyone is going to have there opinion, the only opinion that matters is yours because its your car and your taste, as for the green tint under sunlight i think flyboy had that problem because the color he painted it so he had to re paint it? i think thats what he said in his post when he said it was green under sunlight. i dont believe he had an issue with there being a green tint the way it came out of the box.

Also my pics were taken outside under sunlight, do you see a green tint? i dont, like i said i am very happy with the way it came out

Hey bruce_van where did you get your cig lighter next to the glove box? i would like to do that to my 8 espescially now since i made a hole in the clip for the peswix. want thew cig lighter to get rid of the clip with the hole in it, it wasnt in line of sight so i had to move it to a different area. i like how your cig lighter still illuminates red with the rest of the dash, when i was looking at some a while back i didnt see any with the red backing like that, any info would be nice, thanks

never mind what i said about what indy said about the green tint he does state that it does have a green tint out of the box in direct sunlight, i havnt noticed, even then tho who stares at the center console while driving? =), dont think it would bug me even if it did have a green tint under direct sunlight, not like i would notice while im driving anyway.

Hey to each his own. I will say I'm shocked by how good the fitment looks for the single din. It really looks perfect in that photo; I was skeptical about how a single din would look there. I'm gonna go DD myself, but that's pretty encouraging. I'm just trying to figure out what to put in there. I want to keep the stock Bose speakers, so not going to redo the whole thing, mainly because I'm pretty lazy. I want a carpc but haven't found a good route that accommodates my laziness yet so may just get an Avic D3. Don't like the need to have DVD in to nav though.

i've read through the thread and am having problems figuring this out...

the kit offer a conrtol module to adapt the steering wheel controls to ANY aftermarket head unit correct? IE if i were to inatll my Pioneer AVIC i would be able to control 'certain' function correct? such as volume.

Also will the bose speakers work CORRECTLY with an aftermarket HU? I know with the VW's and adui's you ened to install new speakers as the BOSE amps don't work with other HU's.

Thank you.

Has anyone dealt with 12vtoolbox? When the thread started the prices were the same...but I don't even see the Double DIN on Installer.com now. Everywhere else is like $50 more than 12vtoolbox for the kit. Sounds like my second winter project has arrived.

Question 1. No, there is no control module, to adapt your HU. You will need to by a brand specific module (PAC makes a great line of these products... but I couldnt get mine to work.. .but i will keep trying... then again, i really love the touch screen too...so who knows)

Question 2. I have an 04 Jetta, and I had to buy a special adapter to adapt to the Monsoon amp, but with the RX-8, you dont need any special adapter. It seems that there must be some type of crossover that signals the center speaker, as it works perfectly with my Pioneer head unit, and I didnt even connect any center speakers.

And I have to say that the system sounds INCREDIBLE....the bose amp and speakers really sound great... so Im thinking the lack of good crisp highs and lows were limitations of the head unit, and not the amp and speakers.

DeViLbOi: A little search goes a long way.
http://www.installer.com/cars/by_car.php?carid=6256

But no I have not heard of anyone here ordering from 12vtoolbox. So no clue if they're good or bad. I was just curious, where else did you find these for $50 more?

Guess I'm the only one who grew up in the hood.

And if you're adding in a Pioneer headunit, you'll need the PAC-SWIPS. Works perfectly. Uses the wired remote port, so it's not line of sight IR.
