Its not fine. Metra should have their **** together. Its especially not fine if you have to remove everything, and somehow end up frying the Axxess box, leading to no AC/defrost/whatever in the middle of a South Florida summer rainy season. Not fine at all.

Seriously...call them back, ask again. If you get the same answer, get the guy's name, ask to speak to his boss. They DO have them, they ARE available, and they WILL send them out. Persevere my friend. Be a pain in the ***, it can be quite rewarding :D

Metra is awesome! It's just some of there tech's don't know about the new cables yet.

Report back here if you don't get the cables. Someone who has access to plenty of them reads this thread. I won't say who

BTW if anyone is in need of a replacement AXXES box I have a extra one. It's a late development unit without the logo but works fine. I had it hooked up to my car. It includes ver 1.4 but it DOES have the "matrix" glitch problem. (Still fully functional) I'll send it over for free as a way to repay the guy who sent it to me when I needed it! (My retailer sent me the one i payed for finally so I swapped it out while i had the stereo out)

Yeah the tech guys won't budge on it.. they told me I would have to buy an entire new kit which is senseless.

Could you possibly direct them this way??? I would totally pay for any shipping costs!!

Metra HAVC seems to not work properly

Hi,
Recently has install F90BT with Metra kit. Spent lot of time and have not full result.
Radio: There are no access to system settings and navi setting. (I guess it's problem with parking break wire, which was connected directly to break wire, now connected to AXXISS.)

HVAC: Display show "Metra's RX-8" and status of climate. Button still off and pressing/holding no result.

Any suggestions?

PS: Please do not post answers like "read this thread", i'm doing it all week from first to last page.

Hi,

I have issue with recent purchased metra kit. Technical support said to ask to replace my kit with seller. But I see that kit was send to ms is old one (rev. 11-08).
Could you tell me what store sell new rev. you posted early.

As people already have mention above.

I found out that not only firmware update, the kit also comes with 2 extra wires.

Check out old (10/08) compare to new release (01/09) manual.

With old kit, installer needs to remove 2 cables from OEM head unit.
And the cables are so short, which make it very hard when installing.

With new kit safe a lot of time and installation is also a breeze.

Installed my AVIC-F90BT this week with the Metra kit. I did the RCA splicing per Rotary Resurrection and this setup rocks with a sub in the trunk! Thanks to everyone in this thread

Yesterday finally got my new kit. Instruction is market by 05-09.
AXXISS is looking more bigger than previous box (black box not line in image at box).
Inside this box looks more technic.

I did replace axxiss and replace bash face (to glossy, but it's not brilliant black) and have no problem now with red display and AC.

Kit was ordered from installler.com, after order i has call them and ask for newest version. Package was shipped direct from metra (FL).

Now i'm happy with that.

Ordered my kit from crutchfield with a $20 off coupon and got the package, but it only had one climate control extension cable. So I contacted Crutchfield, they give me the return shipping label and I send it back. I get the new one in, and, once again, only one extension cable. Anyone else had this problem? I am going to call Metra directly to get the other cable sent to me without having to do a full product return again with Crutchfield.

extension cables

So turns out my AC/Heater wasn't fried, it was the short cables basically pulling themselves out of the Axxes box. Loose/no connection means HVAC not working. Surely a case where the extension cables would have worked wonders.

Called Metra about this and got told they were not available. Spent a good amount for a kit where the firmware is making my clock go fast 1:45 over a few week's time now and the cables are so tight they run the risk of pulling themselves out.

If it wasn't for the kit actually working and allowing a double din headunit, I would be really annoyed with this thing.

Where's the love for the folks who bought one as soon as it came out?

Just as an FYI I did the update to my axxess box a couple days ago and thus far the timekeeping is perfect. A lot better than the 15-20 minutes per week it was gaining before. I never really experienced any of the display glitches that other people report, but I don't usually drive the car for more than 30 minutes at a time anyway so I may just not have noticed.

Anyway, the update does seem to solve the only issue I had, which was fast timekeeping.

You can pull the AC/Fan Cables out their originall holding location on the back of the AC module. It is enough room. If you dont pull the AC/Fac Cables out of their oringinal holding location than yeah I can understand your problem....but its really easy. If I was to do it again I can do it in about 1 hour.

Parking Brake Bypass

Some double dins will allow you to simply ground the "parking brake" wire and will let you play DVD's while driving. This has worked with a previous KENWOOD double din on an Impala, but when I used the same method on my Pioneer Unit, it reset itself once I restarted the ignition. The below video shows you what I mean and how to Bypass the "parking brake" wire to allow DVD play while driving. Any questions, please ask!

The problem is not fitting the cables to the box while you're holding it in your hand, its getting everything pushed back in your dash, and god forbid you don't have to EVER take it out again because there's a good chance you will pull a wire out of a connector, or worse. Trust me on this one. Are the extensions ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY? Clearly not. Are they obviously a HUGE benefit, big enough in fact that Metra actually includes them with all new kits? Again obviously...yes. I don't know why people seem to get such different answers. When I called and asked they said no problem, what's your address and I had them in a few days. It must depend on who answers the phone.

It was harder for my to push back the Pioneer Harness then the rest of the wires, and I have no extenstions. If you cut the part that Metra Instructions tells you to cut to house the Axxess box then you shouldnt have any problems..... then again some people are reallly sensitive to everything being really easy. All the Metra Kits Best Buy carries are easy to install, they dont however carry the 8 kit for a reason, because Yes it is difficult and time consuming but is definitely worth it!

edit: I can uninstall and re-install my Head Unit in about 10-15 minutes, Dont believe me? Ill even make a video if you'd like. The reason I havent made the video is because I dont want the whole world on YOUTUBE knowing how to steal our HEAD Units. Im going to make the Video just to prove you how easy it is and that there is enough space to put everything together.

edit2: The hardest part is pluggin in the Atenna Cable as many can probably agree with me if their attena
in" is on their right side of their HU's and the cable runs from the left.. there is no slack with the antenna cable

yeah to fit everything easier with out extenions you just have to cut alot of the sub dash like the instructions say, how ever i think the instructions say to cut much less then you really need to lol. and i think its funny how in your pic of your nicely painted blue kit you are even wearing matching blue shorts lol, everything must be blue? lol, just giving ya a hard time

Well, from your picture I would say you have significantly less wires/harnesses/whatever than I had with my Alpine. The W505 doesn't have everything and the kitchen sink in one box...if you want various other things you can add a box, with more wires, etc.

In any case...the bottom line is this: Metra would never have created the extension cables in the first place if they weren't getting a LOT of complaints about the difficulty of installation without them. They're there to make money, not give away extraneous parts. They're also not obligated to give them away to people who bought the older kits, although its not a bad move to be friendly to your customers. Its just curious that they appear to not have a set policy, and depending on who answers the phone that day, you may or may not get what you're looking for.
