Question Loc Trouble Need Help... Clips And I Hate It

Hello all im back and with more trouble... This is what i have and what i have done.... i have a jl 10w7 and a jl 500/1 amp in my 8. I bought the peripheal sven1 i think the lone out convertor.... its hooked up after the factory amp and what i did was tied the 2 pos and 2 neg together and hooked up to the right side speaker wire... I have turned down the gains on both the loc and the amp.. but when i have my volume around 20 it starts to clip.. more when its deeper bass clips at even lower levels.. what can i do to eliminate this clipping crap. drives me nuts....

also i just got the 500/1 jl amp. it has a ton of different gains and stuff can anyone help me out in setting a it just a simple standard way. or if anyone has a close picture of their gains id love to see it, thanks guys

well first off why did you tie the 2 pos and 2 negatives together?? Tap the right for the right speaker and tap the left for the left speaker based off the instructions

second, return the periph. LOC it is bad news (as per the guidance of other forum members no personal experience on that one)...I was using a Tsunami LOC which was really a POS but worked pretty well but I just got the David Navone NE-7V in the mail today and will hook it up next week (I'm going out of town). Best part is it is only $20!!!

Really better signal will come if you tap before the AMP using the LOC but if you are uncomfortable with that no problem...the improvement you will make will be small (but with that kind of power you might want to consider it)

well i tied them both togther for ummm. well i saw u could so i did it so i didnt have to make more taps... i realyl didnt think it would matter being i only had a single sub.. but i will correct that...

So u say trash the pher. loc and go with somethign else huh??? thisis my first loc hookup with i dont really like but my options are pretty limited if i want some bass... what is the David Navone NE-7V anyways?? and where do i get one.. but i think i will wait until u hook urs up and see what u think or anyone else knows abou tthis loc... or is it an loc all together???

well. i am gonna tear it all out this wekeend and start over and try tapping it the other way.. maybe the load on it is to great thats why it clips...

anyone else shed any light on this crap.. other people have had to have this problem too.. what were ur experiences on this????

your also missing a different bass signal coming the other speaker...which if for instance you are playing a live recording of a concert the bass could be coming through more on one side

how did you run the power and what gauge?

where are you grounding or are you running a full ground return to the negative post?

well with 500watts RMS for sub and AMP, which is awesome btw

suggested gauge size for a run to the trunk is 4 to 6 gauge (6 gauge obviously hard to find and usually not car audio related) see the chart: http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp

At full power you are drawing about 75amps, which is a lot You have a fuse rated for 80 amps run on the power right near the connection to the battery? (this would not be cause of clipping)

with our 100amp alternator 75 amps full load is serious sub power on our tiny car
Forbidden will probably need to chime in here but I'd almost venture to say get yourself a CAP and/or upgrade your battery (or if more extreme get a second battery).

Are you running other amps in the car or other electrical devices with high load?

I think you will have to evaluate the information I just gave you and then have more questions for all of us.

As for the Ground issue, the ground return on our car is crap, this is propbly due to a lot of aluminum and a new welding process that fuses panels instead of spot welding the joint. Also there is body adhesive, yes expoxies that create a greater bond then welding!!! but are poor conductors.

Running a Full return will remove lots of resistance, the sub will sound better, so when your done you'll have a 4 gauge power and 4 gauge ground....it should all be able to route in the plastic scuff panels...as for passing through the firewall your already doing that now so whatever you want to do (drill behind the washer fluid tank or enter through the bottom of the rubber grommet on the drivers side).

The great thing is you have the awesome sub and the awesome amp...now it is just a matter of fixing these little things to make it hit hard

Read my grounding sticky at the top of the forum as it applies to you for certain. Next read this link to a thread here on this site. My responses are at the bottom. As far as a cap goes, not necessary. If you are clipping all over the map, it is due to having the gain on the amp set incorrect or a power / ground issue. Is this a Bose system in this car?

yes forbidden.. it has the bose system in it.. i tired to reconnect my loc i have now.. messed with the gains and stuff.. i still get clipping.. mostly at volume level 20.. like i said i just order the david n. loc yesterday so see if this will help me... will... i will ge tthis new loc and if im still haivng problems i will up grade to 4 gauge wire.. my question is. is wire wire.. i know i have seen some wire that is very expensive.... do i ned to go buy the top line wire. i mean is the braided and stranded better so it gets better current through it??? so i will run a new hot and a new 4 guage ground tot he battery post..!!??!!!! i just have this new amp. and it has so many differetn settings i dont know what to adjust... i mean if someone had a picture of the recommendation settings on a jl amp that would be great.. im hell on wheels with the pictues lol.... when i have played this sub it sounded good but for some reason i think this sub will deliver more and hit harder.. i will try a few more things then i will take it to a shop and have them mess with it some.. or should i do it now... thanks guys for ur help.. keep the knowligde coming..!!!!

Forbidden to the rescue!

definitely upgrade the wire, you don't have to get the expensive stuff...talk to Matt at Mazdaparts he can get you a Power amp kit for cheap from www.pie.net remember you will need a 4 gauge power and 4 gauge return

now if you plan on adding amps in the future you may want to go above that in size but then you are going to have one heck of a time running the wires

I'm happy you care that your system is setup optimally, that you are willing to takes the steps necessary to make this sucker pound!

I have a friend whose riced out car was an electrical nightmare that one day an amp power wire melted due to no fuse and the interior was destroyed from smoke damage, well it started to clean up but the smell of melted vinyl just doesn't go away ever...she was lucky it could have burned her car to the ground and her house (it was in the garage at the time!!!!!!)
