PA Line Output Converter?

ok, I have a 2004 RX8 velocity red GT and i'm pretty much in love with it, however, I think the bose sound system is a little lacking. I was thinking of dropping alot of cash and getting metra kit and a bad *** kenwood headunit and some subs and amps and all that jazz, but that's gonna end up being liek $2000 at the least. From reading alot of posts, I hear that I can jsut add amp(s) and sub(s) to my Bose system with a Line Output Converter, correct? Well I have a few questions I haven't found the answers to in the posts i've been reading, so maybe someone can help me out here.

1) How exactly does a LOC work? I sorta understand this concept but it's a littel confusing. Where in the wiring does it come in, and is it like, all teh lines go into it and then it hits the Bose amp or what, you know, how's that all go down, lol.

2) Is there a maximum amount of amps and/or subs i can add? i was probably going to do 2 and 2, just want to make sure if the LOC just lets me treat the entire system as an aftermarket one and wire it how I want it.

3) Would http://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC6I...tput+converter be an acceptable LOC to purchase for the RX8? What is the difference between the other models, and which is best for me? (although knowing what's best for me is kinda tough to ask people that I don't know)

Thanks in advance, unless you flame me for my noobiness to LOC, I promise I know how to wire car stereo equipment, hahaha

This thread helped me when I was looking at an Line out convt.

However, with the metra kit being out... you could upgrade the whole system properly... I have wired subs and speakers into every single one of my previous cars, but never had to deal with LOC nonsense.

Read through that - it'll answer a lot of your questions... if you still have more, post again and I'm sure someone will answer it.

David Navonne Engineering has a great unit for like $30. Ive used it in two cars, including my current. It has yet to fail. It's everything around it that fails lol, but it still works beautifully, and has a wiring diagram with it. Basically, you tap into the speakers right before the rear deck. In all honesty tho, upgrade the speakers before the subs. Cleans the sound up ALOT. And if ur gonna do all that wiring, do it all at once. Just my two cents. It's a pain to go back and redo it all when you get a proper headunit

Definitely.. plan beforehand. Do not rush into an installation and do it half-assed.

I can attest to this..

I <3 my JL Cleansweep.

The Cleansweep takes the low level differential signal from the head unit and turns it into pre-amp level outputs for driving an aftermarket amp.

I had an audiocontrol LC7 before the cleansweep and ran into a lot of noise issues with it. Other people have used audiocontrol's Line output converters with no issues, so I would say that it could be installer error, and the Cleansweep handles noise rejection better. The cleansweep is kind of limited in it's gain controls though.

Plan the hell out of your setup. Then plan some more. Then check your plan for errors. You'll still make mistakes on it. That's why DIY stereo installs are a hobby.
