JL Audio CleanSweep

JL Audio CleanSweep

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this product. Anyone have any experience with anything like this?

Wow very interesting! Thanks for the info. If we (RX-8 owners) dont ever get a decent costing dash replacement kit soon that you dont have shipped in from Mars then I will definitely have to look this thing over.

I spoke with one of my local JL dealers about this. They only recently found out about it themselves and have no pricing info yet. Oh well, I guess we really will have to wait a few more months.

Did any one else download the PDF - it shows the Mazda 6 head unit so making this work with the RX8 should be reasonably easy - I would have prefered more than one aux in but you can't have everything.

If this is like $500... what is the value of getting it IF you aren't looking for a competiton car audio system??

Wouldn't the PIE unit or upcoming aux unit plus line converters be a cheaper and "good enough" solution? Particularly if you DON'T have the Bose stereo?

I think $500 MSRP is going to be about right.

And yes I think this is a big invention A LONG TIME coming. WAY too few level converters are active. Almost all are passive where you let a transformer try and maintain the signal quality.

I do wish that the **** was more than a simple volume control but a optional bass boost **** as well.

I do like the auto calibration of the JL but it would also be nice if the installer could set up their own curves as well with a computer interface or something. It seems a bit of a waste to have a 30 band eq processor that is essentially a one trick pony. If you could set it yourself you could allow for the Clean Sweep to not only do source unit equalization but complete car equalization*.

*there is still a way to do this but not as easilly.

I just had my audio system "upgraded", and we looked at using that in the system. The JL guy that my installer spoke with said that it wasn't going to be available for 3-4 more months (he met with the guy at CES). I decided not to wait for it. The price was in the 400-500 range, and the feeling was if the rest of the work didn't do a good enough job, I would go back and have it done later.

Went with the Zapco amps instead of JL amps. Zapco has some dsps on it that clean up the audio a lot, and with the stuff I listen to (Bass MTX, Sonnyboy Williamson [blues harmonica], Wendy Carlos [synth], reggae, etc.), I don't think I need to spend another $400.

I went with 2 Zapco amps, JL subs, and Focal speakers. Zapco uses special cables which is a bummer, but the quality and power are awesome (as is the psychadelic affect of looking through the rear mirror at night with the subs cranked way up )
