Ipod mounting interest custom made

Hey guys,
Ok this thread is to see how many of you would be interested in a place to mount your Ipod or to store it when you are driving.

I just contacted the person who makes the middle console arm rest for the RX8 you can view it here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7971134461

What do you guys think about a cut out in the shape of the Ipod that would be sunken into the arm rest so the Ipod would sit flush with the top of the arm rest?

I know you may be leaning on it a little while driving but it would be a better and cleaner looking solution than I have see so far. And this would be rather inexpensive to buy.

Let me know what you think.

Ok I spoke with the guy who makes this item today. He wanted to know if there was a market for it so I included some rough sketches below. Please make a list of people that may be interested in this and then I will get a group buy approved from a moderator.

And if you don't like it or think there can be another solution or have something to add to the design then please feel free to post your feedback here.

Thanks,
Brian

Not a bad idea... It would be best if it was sunken down enough so your arm doesn't push the buttons. Also there would have to be a hole to run the wire through the console. Right now - my iPod is wired through the console and just sits in the cupholder. One more thng, I think it would have to have a replacement piece that could fit inside the cutout so if you dont have your ipod in the car it doesn't look stupid . I would probably be interested depending upon the price.

My iPod goes underneath the armrest, in the back component near the DC Socket. Out of sight out of mind. I prefer to have less items displayed that people would want to steal (other than the car).

I have the same proclipusa mount as well. I like having it next to the radio controls so I can easily see it when needed. I initially used one that sat in the cupholder angled up toward me, but it was a pain to see and manipulate.

I wouldn't want it in the center armrest, as it would be hard to see/use, and I would most l ikely hit it all the time with my elbow.

From the picture I don't think you would hit it with your elbow...maybe your wrist or forearm. I like the idea personally, but I think it would need some kind of cover. That would make it look non-stupid when the iPod wasn't present, as someone else already said, and it would allow me to hide it when I leave the car. It would actually be a pain if I had to take it out of the armrest and hide it somewhere every time I get out. Finally, it needs to allow for the routing of wiring not only from the dock connector, but also from the headphone jack. I believe the Aux Mod, for example, connects via that jack.

But if its in the armrest what would you do with the wire that connects it to the stereo? That console cover slides a good distance from the cup holders all the way back to that little storage box. I would think you would encounter numerous problems with the wire getting pinched and just getting in the way of the console and the cup holders. Seems like a bad place for it.

I have mine in the coin tray right above my left knee. Most people are bitching about not being able to see what song is playing. It's your iPod you put everything on there, you should have a fair asumption. I've got 3200+ tracks and I always know what's playing, maybe not the song but atleast the band.
