My single CD skipped. I had it replaced under warranty. No more problems.

hey limey I can help you out on this one...

I have the PIE adaptor and have 2 gold plated RCA ins to the head unit...no soldering plus I'm going to hookup an ipod and have the steering wheel control it

if you want talk to Thew about it...he owns rx8garage.net he'll hook you up

My singledisc CD player has always skipped sincethe day I got the car backin August 2003. I alwaysforget to mention the problemwhenever I go in for service b/c Im so used to it by now.
I think Im going to buy a 6disc cd player soon or maybe the MP3 player b/c I donthave anymore storage space leftin my car for additional CDs. Theonly thing I dont likeabout the MP3 player is if I had 200 mp3s on a CD and I wanted to hear song number 105 for instance -- then it wouldbe a major pain in the *** to hold the skip track button from track 1 allthe way to track 105. Its too badtheres no keypad or remote included w/the mp3 unit so that I oculd enter the exact track I wantedto play.

Yeah you should get an MP3 Player I got it and it rocks I burn like 100 song on a CD better then any 6 disc changer. Plus you get the ID3 Tag info displaying on the screen.

Too bad mp3 songs are not full quality, they are compressed versions of the orgionals, therefore I think I might go with the 6 disc changer over the mp3 player

that is true...but if you encode them at 192kbps or higher you are not going to notice the difference as long as the car is running because the quality difference is so minor the engine/tranny/road noise will prevent you from really noticing it...the most important thing is that you encode it well (not just higher bitrate but using great compression tools and good originals)

Now if you are using it for a show car then forget the mp3s but who is going to use the stock setup anyway if you are doing big shows where there is audio competition? forget the whole thing, get an IPOD and control it through the steering wheel using a Denison Icelink and PIE adapter (talk to thew at rx8garage.net he handles this)

Back on track (sort of), I was sick of the single cd head unit skipping and so decided to get the mp3 player. I wanted to do the install yesterday, but when I look into the diy forum (mp3 installation) for the pics that I saw before are gone. Anybody have install pictures to repost on the diy and help some members out? Thanks

Just installed my MP3 this weekend. man, those connectors are a pain.
I ended up breaking one of the clips on the center console, so the right rear portion sticks up about 1/8th of an inch. Not too noticable, but still bugs the hell out of me.
On top of that I LOST the gold bolt. Doh. but it is awesome. I endcode everything at 128, which allows about 200 songs. It takes a couple seconds to load, but it really isn't as long as I thought it would be.

lol. I did exactly the same. Lost the gold screw, broke a clip by the ebrake. The plastic bit sticks up a bit

The load time only happens the first time you put the cd in, after that it's a lot faster. Enjoy it

ONOFIVEO,

Did they give you any grief to replace it due to the skipping? Mine is doing the same thing and I was wondering if they would do that under warranty.

No prob what so ever getting an exchange, lahartline. They (Trussville) had to order it first, so it took a week or so. It was all covered under warranty. Hey, maybe you'll even get one of the newer radios with the sat button built in. :D

BTW, Can anyone tell me if an I-Pod or similar device will connect to the factory head unit? OK, I know I'm slow tech wise, but inquiring minds would like to know.

there is a guide in the DIY section of the forum

for a more detailed look at how to install it checkout: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/

also don't forget to disconnect your battery

good luck it is easy just be patient with the connectors and removing panels
