That is an utterly ridiculous price so whats basically some fairly simple work.

how about this

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R1L1...12.html?tp=112

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R150...3&tp=115&avf=N

and do the installation yourself, which I think is pretty easy and has lot of videos online on how todo it.

Otherwise get a tube woofer which is really cheap and again do the installation yourself, not muvh base but very cheap when compared.

NEVER go to Best Buy for car audio. They dont know what they are doing, and if they mess up, they dont like to take accountability. do yourself a favor and go to a shop that specializes in car audio, you will be a lot better off!!!

That's a pretty general claim to make.

Any car audio place will be hit/miss.

If you're in Central Florida..... holla at cha boy!

And why everyone is freaking out about the price, I don't know. He is obviously paying full retail price. On top of that, I believe BB charges $90-$100 for an amp/sub install. Plus wiring and tax and that's a "reasonable" quote. They're not "ripping him off." They're not giving him $300 worth of products/services and charging him $1200. THAT is ripping someone off.

Now with that said, as with ANYTHING else in life, if you buy online and do the work yourself you can cut that price in half.

This isn't a ridiculous price as some of these guys would lead you to believe.

Rockford p3 299.99
Alpine Amp 239.99
Box 49.99
8g Wiring 39.99-59.99
LOC 19.99

WITHOUT installation thats 649.96

Now if it was purchased at my store, the total cost for an identical system would be $559.95 but thats because I have the liberty to give discounts.

Best buy also charges an install fee of 79.99 for sub/amp installs. So they're actually quoting you less then what you would usually be paying.

If you wanna pay less, get used / discounted things, or save up some more money.

Finally, a couple people that agree with me...

Dezau, if you still haven't gotten this done. And you're willing to drive to Melbourne, I'll do the work for you.

What? He has a RX8 and you want him to drive over to you. I have a way better idea. ROAD TRIP and come to Vancouver Island...... or stay there and get the work done locally and professionally and be quite happy.

Go back and re-read the OP's statement. In his list of charges the labor fee is included.

That is a normal price IMO. I would personally do the labor myself but I like doing that stuff. Be careful of going through Best Buy though, some stores have great installers, some have crappy ones (I know, I used to work at Best Buy, in two different locations, one had great installers, the other had crappy ones) The funny thing was though is that the store with the crappy installers were all "1ST-Class Certified". Seriously, utilize the resources you got on this forum.

Same with Circuit City (While they existed). One of my co-installers transferred to another store due to him moving a few towns over. After 3 months there he transferred back to my store because their entire shop (including supervisor) were completely ignorant on anything car audio related. He said he's willing to make the 50 minute drive each way rather than work with them.

Funny story he told us. One of the installers at his other store installed a Sirius Stiletto system in a car. The Stiletto would power on, but was getting extremely hot to the touch right away. The installer figured it was faulty and just grabbed another one off the shelf. Plugs it into the car and it does the same thing. After running out of ideas, he calls my friend over to help figure it out. My friend starts from the beginning and asks him how he ran everything and where he tapped power, etc. Come to find out he cut the cigarette lighter plug off the power lead and just tapped the wires onto +12V ACC. My friend tells him, "you can't do that. The Stiletto runs off of 5V not 12V." His reply.... "well I put a 5 amp fuse inline with the positive lead, so that brings it down to 5V." I **** you not. My friend said that was the last straw. He put in for transfer back to my shop.
