Well, the 500/1 JL slash is perfect for 1-10w7 setup. I will get the 500/1 if I'm planning to stick with that set-up & wont be changing it. If you plan on adding another sub or replacing it with a more power hungry sub in the near future, I would definately get the 1000/1 for now & just turn the gains all the way down on the amp for your 10w7. Oh yea, the older DEI stuff is definately better built & higher quality & the new stuff I heard is crap. The way car audio works these days is more power=better product, that's what they are trying to amke us think & it definately tricked most of us out there. These days most companies tries to built the beefiest amps instead of putting up quality all around it ,they focus on putting out as much watts as they can. That's why most old school gear will be better than the new generation stuff. Also, I've seen alot of popular old school gear that's made in the early 90's that still goes for well over $1000 because it's known to be top quality stuff & way out performs the newer generation stuff.

i really dont think im gonna go any larger then a 10 anymore.. then again i said that with 12'2 then i put 4 - 15's in my older car.. its sad to say im getting older and its time to tone it down SOME not much but some.. i am gonna get a 500/1 and see what sounds better.. the one problem i have right noe with the converter is that i set the volume at say 10 and the bass is still strong.. and it seems i have alot of vocals in my sub which i cant stand.. the dei amp doesnt have a cross over on it i dont think... so i need to elimiante that. it hink the jl amp has all those gadgits.

Not to hijack the thread, but what are you guys using as a ground point for your setups? I have a small system right now, not drawing a lot of power, so i wasn't all **** about having the best ground point. But after seeing this thread, I think i want to go with a similar setup and i'd just like to know where you guys are grounding.

I know this post is two years old but... any finished pics on Tru's setup... and I have to agree abotu the old school stuff. I had an Orion HCCA, honking anodized and etched aluminum, red amp that ran 800x1 into 1(Birth SHeet 1277x1 into 1ohm) and that was the best sub amp I'ver personally every worked with. It has no later then late 90's. I ran so many different setups with that amp in multiple different cars. That amp got passed through a combination of 5 of my freinds and was still KICKING. I would roughly estimate that that amp had been installed in 20 different systems, running anywhere from 1 sub to 4... All applications were happy as long as they got the right power/impedance matchup.

I just put in a 12 inch L5 with a zenclosures box, and 750 RMS amp, I'm gonna take some pics in the morning with some good lighting, it turned out real well and I was happy with the install from Custom Sounds here in Austin, even though they were expensive.

these have been seen before, but I'll add to the back from the dead thread:

we've since changed up a few things, like redid the decklid piece, and we filled in the corners behind the amps with some covered pieces where I park little 1/24th Rx-8's during car shows I"ll have more recent pics after next weekend's show.
