Hour and a 1/2 for CD changer install !??!?!
Just wondering the truth to that statement.
Went and stopped by the dealer today asking them about getting my 6disc changer installed (which I bought off the guy on eBay). Tech tolded me plan for a hour and a half ... at $75 a hour its much more pricey then I expected!
Tried a stereo shop also but they refused because of some sort of "risk of breaking something that cost like $600 in the fragile RX8 system"
Afriad to try it myself because I have never done any work on electronics in my car! So anybody in Pittsburgh want a few bucks to install for me???

Just follow the DIY listed on the website. I did my mp3 player install without too much of an issue. It's really not any more difficult than using a screwdriver.
Oh, the most difficult part is finding that one screw ...

Stuck in a love triangle
Takes 30 minutes to an hour to do yourself. The reason why it takes this long (the first time) is because finding and removing the awkwardly placed 10mm bolt on the side of the HU is somewhat of a pain in the ***, and loosening/disconnecting the connectors from behind the cd drive is also a hassle because they are on really friggin tight. Those two parts take up most of your time. You probably don't want to scratch up your pretty little interior or lose any screws either, so you take your time and don't rush things. A dealer can easily turn that into an hour and a half job.
You can definitely do this yourself. If you know how to use a screw drive and socket wrench, then you have all the required skills to install it.

Deals on wheels
Yeah if I hear you pay 125+ bucks to have this thing installed I will personally come PA and slap you. The install is VERY easy. just read the how to and make sure you put a towel on your shifter so you don't scratch the front of your HU. As for the bolt on the side.. it's a bitch but it's not worth 125 bucks.

Seriously -
Like everyone has said, if you can use a screwdriver, you can remove the headunit.
I'm nowhere near you, but I'd be willing to talk you through some of the more confusing stuff on the phone.
Save you're self the money, and send me a pm for my phone # if you want.
If it makes you feel better, you can send me some cash too for the info.
