Hey guys who would like to help me with my new radio set up???
Ok so I want to purchase a Metra Kit. I have questions.
1. Does a new kit need the firmware update 1.4?
1 1/2. Is there a better alternative to the metra kit-besides Corksport? Because when I search Metra kit here on the forums. All I read about is people having issues with the damn thing.
2. Whats this special wire everyone is sending around to update there Metra Kits?
3. What do you think is the best head unit on the market?
4. Superdum question-Noobish almost.... the Doubble Din kit is the one which houses the 7in screen HU's correct?
I would like to make these purchases tonight. So I appreciate anyones imput. Thanks in advance guys.

I zoom therefore I am.
1. new kit may come with the firmware already, depends on how old the kit is
2. Only "off the shelf" kits are the metra and corksport
3. There is no best HU, it all depends on how much you want to spend and what features you want from it
4. Yes, double din is what you're looking for

i think i paid 600ish for my avic d3x. not the newest thing out there, and wasnt when i got it over a year ago.. but it does everything you want. The newer pioneer HU's have some nice bells and whistles on them too.
I read up alot here: http://avic411.com/ before i bought mine
as far as XM goes.. meh. My HU let's me stream blue tooth audio to it. So now i'm usually rolling down the road with my droid running slacker radio, sending that to my HU over BT. All the fun of satellite radio with none of the cost.

Do you have the nav. screen in the car? I was looking at this route to use a screen there for only the Nav using these items. Both of these are XM ready you just need the XM unit, the first option is HD radio ready if you like that.
Clarion VX400
Clarion NP400
and run the screen via a video composite cable from the HU output.
or
Clarion VX709
Clarion NP509
Clarion CCB509
run the screen through the video out on the Nav module
The 1st route is cheaper but I am not sure if it would work the way I am thinking. Being the Nav would only be shown on the LCD screen where the stock nav is and all other functions are on the HU screen. This you can get for 639 without the 2nd LCD screen of your choice.
The 2nd option seems it would work this way since you are running the video directly out of the nav module to the screen. And keeping all other functions with the HU. This you can get for 699 without the 2nd LCD screen of your choice.
