help with iphone video and audiolink / apple video cable

Hello guys,

I was wondering if anybody knew of a patch to bypass the iphone detecting whether I am using an authentic apple cable.

Here is what's happening. I just got an Audiolink which plugs into the bottom of my iphone and into the head unit. I can control the songs from my playlist fine but the video will not play on my NAV screen.

Now when I use an apple video cable, I can play both songs and video through my NAV screen. However, I lose the ability to use my steering wheel to control my songs.

From what I read, I think the iphone detects whether I am using an authentic Apple cable or not. Is there any way to bypass that? I want to just use the audiolink for both audio and video from my iphone.

Thanks a lot!

I am wondering if the headphone jack provides a remote functionality that is disabling control via the ipod interface on the bottom of the phone. However, they may have disabled it via firmware like Tom suggested.

No my phone is not jailbroken. I'm using it with AT&T so I didn't want to jailbreak it and have to go through the trouble of updating the jailbreak everytime apple comes out with software updates.

I'm running the latest iphone softwware. Is it worth it to Jailbreak my phone? Is there no way round the "authentication chip" except jailbreaking my phone?

I am not sure because im from canada so my phone has to be jail broken for the obvious reason that i had to unlock it. You could always just go over to the apple store and ask them ... they are usually pritty good about knowing things like that. Let me know if you have any luck!
