headunit replacement with BOSE...

ok ive been searching...and I beleive that im either gonna try a CARPUTER or try and make it cheaper by just replacing my Headunit with my apline 9885

Ive looked at all the kits, metra, corksport etc...

im just trying to price everything and get the best deal...
and honestly trying to make sure its gonna work...

I know the bose componets each have thier own amps in the doors, is this going to cause a problem with replacing the head unit??

The reason Im doing this is because 95% of my music is ripped to my pc and then burnt on cdr for mp3's

how big of a hastle is this going to be with a bose system?

i believe the adaptor is 90 extra dollars. the only kit that ive found with everything you need including bose adaptor and steering wheel button adapter kit is in the 400 dollar range and im not tryin to spend that much. i wish i knew what electronics were in that metra adaptor kit so i could just make something myself.

yes you need the metra kit and and yes it has all the necessary stuff for the conversion including the bose adaptor and climate control adaptor. also you can make the custom lettering on the clock. there selling them for 180 at www.installer.com. youll just not be able to use your steering wheel controls. i hear you can buy the adaptor for that from pac audio i dont know the link though and how much it costs.

Getting the steering wheel controls to work is easy with the controllers from pac audio. Cheap too if you buy from ebay.

What is this Bose adapter that you speak of? I just purchased the Metra kit and it comes with the climate control interface and wiring harnesses but I don't see a Bose adapter in the box.

You don't see the speaker wires coming off the plug that came with the kit? The big orange plug.

O.k, I do have the plug. So I guess my next question is how do I integrate those into my headunit? The headunit only has RCA output connectors on it. Sorry if it seems like a stupid question but I really don't know the answer and so far I am on page 13 of the Metra kit thread and still haven't found the info I need.

Those wires coming off the orange plug connect to the wires coming out of the harness that comes with your aftermarket headunit.

That's what my question refers to. I know the wires on the orange harness are for the audio connection protion of the install but how do I connect the RCA connectors on the headunit to the wires on the harness?

you don't

the aftermarket headunit will come with its own harness similar to the one in the metra kit

it will have wires for speakers just like the metra kit harness

then you just match the wires up and solder them together

Thats just it, My headunit does not have a built in amp so no speaker wire outputs. The only audio outputs are RCA connectors.

oh I didn't catch that, which headunit do you have btw?

Normally I would say: If it has no amp then you have to run RCA cables to an external amp, and then run speaker wires from that amp back up to the dash to connect to the speaker wires coming off the orange metra kit plug.
But if you have Bose that's redundant and probably wont' work.
As far as integrating with the Bose amp I don't know. I did away with everything Bose.

I purchased a Pionner F90BT. I'm going to take an old RCA patch cable, cut the connectors and solder them to the orange harness then connect them to the headunit to see if it works.

Let me try to help you, I have an RX8 with BOSE and the Metra Single DIN installation kit. Here's what myself and a few others did somewhere near page 30 of the huge Metra kit is out thread. Take your regular RCA cables, cut the tip (the RCA connector piece) off and that will expose the insides of the RCA cables which is 2 wires. (Positive and negative) now these wires are very small so they are a little difficult to work with but if you know which one is the positive and which one is the negative (or as long as you wire them up the same on all your connections) you will have one end still RCA (plugged into your head unit) and one end with positive and negative wires to be soldered to your metra kit wires. Any other questions on this or if I am unclear in my directions let me know.

Let me start off by saying thank you to everyone. I feel stupid but I will say that mikeschaefer was right, my head unit did have speaker outputs

I connected them and everything worked, BUT, there ws this very low volume bacgground hiss that I could not stand at very low volume levels. So what I decided to do was go get rid of the Bose system and just replace everything. Today was day one and I only managed to get the headunit and the front door speakers installed. Tomorrow will be day two and I hope to complete my install. I installed 6 1/2 inch components in the front doors and will be replacing the rear 6x9's tomorrow along with the amp to drive them.

I can't wait to complete this so I can listen to the new speakers and amp. I will say that the Bose speakers did sound way better when they were getting a signal from the aftermarket headunit, if it weren't for that hissing sound I would have just called it a day.

Here are a few pictures of where I stopped my installation tonight.

Cool, what'd you use to mount the 6.5's in the doors?
Also, how are you wiring them up?
