head unit malfunction due to remote start?!
I installed the CompuStar 2way remote start and now my whole radio/head unit stopped working. the Nav still works but the display is dead, no music, no A/C controls except fan 1,2,3,4.
The dealership said it has something to with the voltage change - the remote start is sucking up the power. then he suggested i get an aftermarket HU and conveniently has a guy he knows who could 'hook me up'.
So help me out guys, what can i do? get a higher voltage battery? And how would getting an aftermarket HU solve the problem?
Thanks

Does it do this when started with the key? If not, then you need to power up another ignition or acc wire with the remote starter. If it is still dead, time to start checking for blown fuses and unplug the remote start brain as well, retest again.

Thanks for the reply forbidden - it used to flicker regardless if i started with or without they key, like a lightbulb about to go out, but now the unit is completely dead and doesn't turn on at all even if the remote starter is off.
I think the unit was shorted and I'm gonna get a new one, but how could i prevent the same thing from happening in the future? and would an aftermarket unit help?

A higher voltage battery? Are you kidding? Your car is a 12 volt system throughout, you will blow and fry everything electrical in a second.
And of course the tech at the dealership "knows a guy". It's so he refeers you and gets a kickback.
I would take your car to a shop and have them check the install.
I had my radio go out on me like you mentioned, and Mazda replaced it under warranty for free. I think they are telling you it is due to the remote start because they don't want to warranty it.........

that might be it...and it might be true....
who installed the remote starter?...
could have been done wrong AND fry the HU......
or just something is done wrong...and ur HU could be ok...
check the remotes start install before anything ..
my 0.2 cents.
