Head unit best options?

I am a new owner and new to the forum. I have a budget of 700$ and was wondering my best options. Features important are Bluetooth, GPS would be nice and a double din is preferred and keeping steering wheel functions is really important to my wife being its her daily. I have never replaced anything audio related but I'm assuming with any aftermarket head unit I will be able to connect my iPhone as well?

Any info is appreciated. Also curious of best sites to purchase from.

Decide right now if you need GPS or not. That's going to cost/save you ~$300-400 right there.

Here's your adapter that you'll need to retain the steering wheel controls.

Here's Here's
the installation kit you'll need. More details are in the FAQ at the top of the forum.

Yes you will be able to connect your iPhone to pretty much anything. And amazon is as good a place as any to buy. I recommend the
Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS
. No GPS, but EVERYTHING else. In fact, if you put the radio into AppRadio mode, you can run navigation through your phone and onto the radio's screen.

You'll want
this this
cable too. That's what will give you the AppRadio features, as well as normal iPod functions.

And if you want Sirius Radio,
this this
is what you'll need.

Here's Pioneer's website on it. Click on the "Apps" bar on the left of the page and select your iPhone model to see what Apps are compatible. Keep in mind a majority of them work with the iPhone 4/4S with iOS6. If you'll scroll to the bottom of this chart, you'll see that everything works great with those. Scroll up and you'll see somewhat limited availability for the iPhone 5 using various adapters.

Thanks for the leg work on this Firebirdude. I do have one question: When it comes to using the: Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS, with above mentioned cable, how does the call feature work with my iPhone? Does it require the iPhone to mounted and accessible so that it can use the phone's built in mic or does it use something built into the head unit to pick up my end of the conversation?

Also, it was noted in a review on Amazon that the SiriusXM SXV200v1 conflicts with the Metra AXXESS AWSC steering wheel control interface. Have you known anyone with this issue? If that is the case; would it make sense to then just run XM off my phone via the above mentioned connector cable?

The Pioneer unit will come with its own outboard microphone. Your iPhone can remain in your pocket at all times.

No I've never heard of any conflicts with the V200 and ASWC. But of course you can certainly just use your iPhone if you'd rather.

Pioneer's AppRadio is compatible with Android if you buy the Android specific cable. Also, their newer headunit's can be put into "AppRadio Mode" and I think can do everything the plain last-year "App Radio" can.

Anyone put the Sony XAV 601BT unit in their 8? I have an opportunity for a good deal from a shop going out of business. Looks similar to the pioneer AVH. Assume I will need the same install kit and steering wheel control system.

To OP, as firebirddude has suggested, Pioneer has great products. I personally have the Avic Z110BT which is superb. Great GPS, BT, etc.

If you are wanting lower end costs, I would recommend searching for a refurb of this kind - There was the Z110BT, Z120BT, Z130BT. The only difference between them all is the software, meaning you can buy a Z110BT and upgrade it to the Z130BT
