1.) Turn key to on position, but do not start car.
2.) Turn wheel all the way to the right until stop.
3.) Turn wheel all the way to left until stop.
4.)Turn key to off position.
5.) Turn key to on position and start car.

Lights should be gone.

Do not turn car off until proper warm up temp is reached. Some say you can just make sure you rev to 3k and then shut it off, but I prefer to just let it warm up to normal operating temp before shut off to avoid potential flooding.

It's possible that I got #2 and #3 backwards as it 1:00AM and I have no business being up since I got up at 4:30am this morning.

You will need to do this ANYTIME either battery connection is taken off or loosened to the point where you loose contact. And "no" you don't have to take it completely off(in answer to your question), but sometime loosening will cause loss of contact.

No...........but I've done enough mods to know that everytime you take the battery loose, you have to do that reset. It's in the manual BTW.....if you don't have one, download it from www.mazdausa.com, you'll need to go to the owners section and sign up, but it's probably worth it to get a free manual!

Shouldn't have to do that one on an install of a grounding kit. Only time I've had to do that is when I changed my crank pulley. There may be other times but I doubt when you disconnect the battery.
