Fuel pump voltage.

I had a 3rd party installer look at a device on my RX-8 today. The device was malfunctioning and his excuse was that the previous installer had connected it to the 6v fuel pump line rather than the 12v fuel pump line. He claims there are 2 fuel pumps running on different voltages. None of that strikes me as plausible. Can anyone confirm one way or the other whether the car has 2 pumps and the voltages of each please?

converting 12 volt DC to 6 volt DC is a bit of a bother. What would be the benefit?

My sentiments exactly. I know when I'm being bullshitted: I was just looking to prove it. Having said that: he appears to have fixed the problem that was intended just not the way he described. Most odd!
