Factory Radio Swap

I was wondering if anyone knew if you could swap the factory single disc player to the 6 disc. The head unit and cd player are two separate part numbers. I have an 04 with the bose single cd. Im trying to keep it stock. I would just like to do the 6 disc. Please dont comment on why I would want to do that, they are crap, etc. I just need to know if its interchangeable. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it can be done very easily as I've done the same thing. My car came with the single disk and someone on ebay used to sell the 6 disk changer for ~$80 so I bought it.

Use this guide to help you remove the stereo: WhatsMyIP.org | iPod RX-8 | Overview

Once the stereo is out, its just a couple screws from what I remember (Did this in college about 6 years ago).

Specifically, page 10 ( WhatsMyIP.org | iPod RX-8 | Page 10 ) shows the CD player unit is modular; the 6 disc changer has the same dimensions as the single and swaps right in.

I caught that same sale; was a great deal!

Yes there does not seem to be a radio code which pairs the BOSE HUD to the car. When I bought my car it had a Metra kit in it - I wanted to go back to the stock look - bought a BOSE 6 CD HUD and plugged it in - started working right away.

IIRC - the Audiopilot is supposed to be tuned differently for cloth seats and leather seats - so might want to get a HUD from a car with similar seats. Although a lot of audiophiles on this forum don't seem to think much of the feature - I think it works ok for normal situations - kind of like a glorified speed sensitive volume controller.
