I've read a lot about how the optima red-top doesn't fit, you need to modify the positive terminal, etc.

I bought my optima red top from advance auto parts for a little under $100, fit perfect! No modifications needed. I do believe i used that spacer under the battery.

Are you talking about laying the battery on it's side? like terminals to the sides of the car?
