Double DIN install help needed!

I bought a double din radio and everything was going OK, until, I started to hook everything back up. It has nothing to with any loose wiring that needs to be soldered. It the display plug (just above the radio), I bought everything from Crutchfield, and AXXESS box that cam with the Metra kit, does not have the same plug connection needed for the Display wiring. Am I missing something? Did I not connect something correctly?

As you can tell, the top pic is the AXXESS box, the bottom is the actual plug.

is it the display plug for the LCD screen above the radio or is it the hazard light button between the LCD and the radio. Pictures would help.

You do NOT need to cut/mutilate/modify any of the cables supplies with the metra kit!!!!

You need to remove the display extension cable from the back of the stock radio. It's the cable that is connected to the mounting bracket at the back of the radio and runs through a "protection" bracket on the side of the radio to a connector at the back of the radio faceplate.

Remove the connector at the back of the radio from the bracket (remove the two screws at the bottom of the bracket... once the bracket is removed you can easily release the connector.. the cable is also secured to the bracket with two pieces of cloth tape. ) and the other connector from the faceplate (three screws remove the "protection" bracket from the side of the radio).
The connector that was plugged into the back of the faceplate will attach to the "Disp"connector on the metra box... and that will allow you to complete your installation.

This is actually covered in the Metra instructions. Page 2, step #8, illistration H and page 6 step 5 of the manual. Although, the manual doesn't explain it well and the illustrations show it still attached to the stock radio after it is supposed to be removed.

As a bit of advice... I would suggest that the easiest way to install the kit is to wire the Axxess box harness to the radio connector harness using the full length of wire supplied with the harnesses. Plug all the extension cables into the Axxess box and then wedge the Axxess box into the back left hand side of the radio opening (the back end of side panels are not attached to the back of the opening and will flex with a bit of effort). Mark either the fan or temp extension so that you know which is which (I wrapped the end of the Temp extension with electrical tape). Make sure you route the extensions for the Fan and Temp under the botton of the Axxess box and the extensions for the hazard and display to the top of the Axxess box. Plug the large connector (red, orange or brown) into the factory radio connector (after you tap the N and P wires in the connector if you are installing an ASWC adapter) and then push the assembled connectore through the opening that the stock connector is routed through. Route the Axxess box connector wires along the back of the opening behind the radio support bracket and plug the connector into the access box.

Also, before you fit the Axxess box or harnesses into the opening or attach the white clips to the Metra faceplate, attach the brackets to your new radio and test fit the unit into the opening. Once you have the side and rear support brackets adjusted so that the radio sits as desired, then start installing the harnesses and control boxes. One area that the Metra instructions are lacking in detail is reassemble... note that the brackets are secured to the dash using the holes that secure the heater vents. During reassemble once the new headunit is installed, you will need to reinstall the heater vents, then lift the headunit slightly in order to reinstall the screws that secures the vent. Be carefull not to force the radio faceplate on when you reinstall it, as you may need to adjust the headunit position (up or down slightly) to get it to go on properly.

Be aware that you will also want to acquire a radio antenna extension cable, as most aftermarket radios have the plug on the opposite side from the stock radio, and Also, bonnecting the cable to the radio without the extension is VERY difficult.

Also, be aware that on both of the faceplates I received from crutchfield, the white clips that go onto the pegs at the back of the faceplate did not secure to the pegs properly. Make sure that they do, otherwise the faceplate can pop loose from the dashboard. If the clips do not secure to the pegs, you will need to slightly enlarde the top or botton of the square opening near the end of each peg.

Good luck... 8-}
