I have a Valentine One as well, definitely worth the money. Just don't leave it sitting in the window on hot days. Will mess up the x and k calibrations. $45 dollars w/ Valentine to have it fixed

I know valentine one is good. Everyone know that but have you looked the price tag. I can buy a house in my country for that amount

Come on people don't want and afford a valentine. Can somebody suggest a good 100$ radar detector.

you can have a great radar detector or you can have a cheap one.
Pick one, can't have both.

I had one that did exactly that after baking in the sun over a summer here in AZ two years ago. I got it swapped out for a new one under warranty, and proceeded to take my detector out of my car each time it was not parked under shade for extended periods of time. That detector has worked fine since, but they do seem to be prone to heat failure (could be that nice black case absorbing the rays), but a good detector for the dollar (V995). A friend of mine runs the escort 8500 X50 (nearly the same thing as the 995) without any issues, and he leaves his on the windshield all the time. Again.. I have a weak theory the color of the detector may play a factor (escort being light grey in housing color) since the internals are based on the same platform, unless I am mistaken. I've got my eye on getting either the 9500ix, the 9500ci, or the RX65e as my next detector replacement. I thought about getting an 8500 x50 from a member here that was selling at a good price, since my friends holds up better in the heat, but I think I'll get one the Bel/Escort flagship models as an overdue replacement for my v995.

Bel or Escort are at the top of most people's short lists in terms of what's regarded as a good detector, however, the Valentine has it's kudos too, albeit, it's a bit on the large side for my personal tastes. The Valentine's are reported to outperform the Bels/Escorts in some bands, although they weren't reported in some test sites to have consistency in all ranges, namely Ka band in city mode, according to radarbusters.com, radartest.com, etc.. but I do take into account that those sites are in the business of selling you one of their detectors, and Valentine isn't one of them, so everyone should take that into account.

I've found several well done tests at youtube comparing several detectors, including Bel, Escort, Whistler, and the Valentine. Just type in something like V995 vs. 9500i vs. Valentine, and you'll get all the related videos. I have to say that I was rather impressed with how well the Valentine performed in some of the tests. Anyways, not sure if all of this has already been covered, but there's my 2 cents none-the-less. Happy (ticketless) motoring everyone.

Size (from smallest to largest):

Valentine One -> 16.20 cu. in.
Bel RX65 Pro -> 16.33 cu. in.
Bel STi Driver-> 16.33 cu. in.
Escort 8500 X50 -> 18.95 cu. in.
Escort 9500i -> 21.72 cu. in.

Weight (from lightest to heaviest):

Valentine One -> 181.5g (6.40 ounces)
Bel RX65 Pro -> 236.6g (8.35 ounces)
Escort 8500 X50 -> 253.7g (8.95 ounces)
Escort 9500i -> 269.2g (9.49 ounces)
Bel STi Driver -> 291.6g (10.29 ounces)

The Escort 9500i is the largest in size and the Beltronics STi Driver is the heaviest. The Valentine One is the smallest and lightest radar detector of the top five radar detectors made today.
