Dash Mount Gauge Alternative.

Have searched, no luck.

I would like to see a picture of the OEM radio, out of the car, specifically the area behind the bottom half of the circle (below volume control). It is blank on an 8. My 6 has an open area where a mini tape drive would go. I want to know if I can drill 2 holes in it an mount a couple of gauges that are only 1" deep. I am kicking myself for not taking pictures when I put the GROM in. Anyone got one out of the car?

Thanks,

Mike

You have the depth, but the space is pretty small.

You can fit a boost controller or radar detector like I did, but not a round gauge... unless it is tiny!

PS - leave radio in, just tape a flathead screw driver up and pop it out - it comes out easy.

Kane,

Thanks, that was a lot easier than I thought...

A lot could fit in there. Which I had installed the damn GROM that way. I really think my kid could have reach his hand in and made the connection.

you can always get a programmable VFD and put it in there. Depends on your setup though.

This is where my oil temp gauge is Trust buddy did this as well. I have had it this way for about a year. If I did it over though i would do a connector from the gauge to quickly disconnect it though because I have had to replace and remove my deck a few times for different installations and that would make remove that gauge each time easier.

Sorry for the crappy pics.

reviving a little from the dead here, but do you suppose two of those would fit there? Judging by the size I'm thinking yes, though it might be tight.

I put mine back together.. But, maybe, side by side 2 would fit. the stuff to the edges of the hole did not look that important if you needed to whack it. Cannot go up or down though, that stuff looked important. The hole in the back is not as big as the cover.

One other thing I have planned (it is a long freaking list) is to get one of the numbers only digital gauges (GlowShift) and take it apart to see actually how much of the body actually has something in it. Should not be much at all. Displays and a little PCB, rest should be air. Then you could carve up the back to fit and put two in here easily (water temp, oil pressure?). Would fit the whole round-stuff-on-dash theme too.

There is just no time.

Sounds interesting. I may just go with one then, and an aux port for the mp3 players. Might try for the two pod vent mount with plx gauges or something. Not sure. Anyway, Thanks.

Tell you what, send me a picture of whatever you do. Those are the same options I am looking at.

I think two will fit. Just make sure you ground them properly.

I've been going back and forth on how to put gagues in the car and haven't found any option I really like.

If anyone wants them, I'm selling my PLX ODBII gauge and temp sensor (for oil temp) for $350. I had it posted in the classifieds for a while, but never got any bites.
