Sweet, with the text-display feature working, add me on the list for the advanced unit as well.

 

My understanding was that there's only one list. I was on it and passed it up a long time ago because I wanted to wait to see how the advanced turned out. If I remember correctly, at the time, I was told that I don't need to do anything to be on the list for the advanced -- because I passed up the basic, I'd be on the advanced list.

Is that still the case? If not, please put me on the list.

In the advanced model, If the ipod will be hooking up via a dock connector, is it possible to run another source (such as sirius sat) into the mini jack?

 

I'd like to know my position as well. I'm still using the basic model every day and loving it still...

You are absolutely correct. If you were already on the Basic list, your waitlist position will hold good for AuxMod Advanced.

I can't talk delivery dates or pricing, and I'm waiting to find out what we can do for advertising/etc. (hint: google "AuxMod")

The iPOD integration will make things a little tricky. Since the Audio has to pass to the iPOD harness, it means that if that is the only thing you have comig out of the module, then there really isn't much you can do. It is possible to put in a Y-adapter to split up the sources to allow a second source, but it's definitely not a good idea to plug them both in at the same time, unless you plan to use an electronic MUX chip to merge the audio.

For the AuxMod Advanced, have you considered the ability for users to update any code on the unit (patches / new features), via its serial connector, from a downloadable flash file?

I'm in the UK and have been pointed to you by the RX8 Owners Club Forum over here. I'm thinking of adding a DAB Digital radio to my 8 and have found a couple that will plug into an AUX input on a car stereo. If I'm reading this thread correctly, I suspect I need one of your basic modules and can then use the Tape button to access the DAB radio. Can you tell me the price and how long your currrent waiting list is? Also, it did occur to me that there are probably a lot of people who have the basic module and are also on the waiting list for the advanced one. If so, had you thought of offering a resale service for the basic modules to these people. They could get a discount on the advanced module and anyone waiting for the basic module (including me probably!) would get one quicker.

Well, if someone is experienced with the HU removal and reinstall for a Mazda, it should take no more then 30 minutes at the dealer say, so maybe you could get them to give you an hourly rate? I've heard from several people that they had it professionally installed, but I haven't had any feedback about how much it actually cost.

Check out the installation guide, it's might not be as bad as you think.

I just did the install yesterday and love the added functionality.

I know there are other threads that discuss the radio removal, I found the Rodenthal link VERY helpful in trying to figure out the hidden bolt.

I must say every time I mess with a car radio, I wish I had the money to pay someone to do it for me. I could not get the LED out of the ash tray, the white tab wasn't budging and I didn't want to snap anything, fortunately the wire was long enough to put the ashtray aside.

I FINALLY got the radio out but could not reach the antenna hookups behind the radio. I finally gave up and put the auxmod in by looking up under the radio. The b*tch was threading a tie strap through some holes to give stress relief to the patch wire.

The security bolt took me 10 minutes or so to figure out. I hope I got it back in tight enough, so it doesn't loosen up and start rattling in 10K miles or so.

Total time was about 1:30, if I had to do it again, maybe 30 to 45 min.

 

pcimino did it the same way I did -- ashtray just pushed aside, Auxmod inserted while many of the wires were still connected. I've had no problems whatsoever, with the minor exception of the feedback looping at higher volumes. Please note that Sylfex strongly recommends against doing the install that way - the instructions are very clear about fully removing the head unit. Given my experience, I don't know why, but the point should be made that it's a contraindicated procedure.

No one has yet explained which wire harnesses do what, their colors and relative positions, and specifically how they are each released (squeezing from the sides, pushing a clip, pulling the harness apart by force, pulling by force with pliers, etc.) I think that might help, especially given that that harnesses have to be released with very little room to work.

If someone does remove the head unit, he might do this thread a favor and document how each harness is properly separated. Photos are always appreciated! I'm hoping to uninstall the Basic and install the Advanced model someday!

 

As the person who trashed his head unit by not disconnecting all the wires or waiting for all the charge to dissapate from the head unit, I cannot emphasise strongly enough the need to follow Sylfex's instructions very carefully. Do not be impatient! --- most of you (unlike me) will forget this

A hint for "that" bolt: first, make sure you have a long enough extension on your socket to reach in easily; secondly, put some Blu-tac or equivalent sticky poster putty in your socket head to retain the bolt once removed....works a treat

 

Timbo: You had to purchase a new head unit? That's obviously not good. Any idea as to what happened? One of the points the installation directions make is that you should not install Auxmod when the head unit is connected to the car, even if the battery is disconnected. I assume there is a risk that the car will retain a charge... anyone have any ideas? Obviously, leaving an antenna connected shouldn't matter.

 

I was one of the early adopters (s/n 0008), and I am pretty sure the repeated warnings in the installation documentation reflect the feedback I provided. I suspect something in the head unit shorted when I inserted the module, even with the ICE fuses removed...so...YES!.. the head unit does retain a charge for some period after disconnection from power.

 

The HU needs to reset so it will recognize the new hardward added.

 

On the installation of the auxmod.. especially of the secret nut... I wonder is it safe to just remove the metal plate once you remove the plastic under the steering wheel to get more access? Because the nut you need to remove is to the right and way way inside from the "2 bolts that are not it".

 

It's probably best to use a socket driver, or socket wrench extension so that you can get the full-reach. It's probably safe to remove the panel, but it needs to go back after
