In just under 4 weeks we expect to get out next batch of modules in.

Things are moving along nicely with the Advanced version. We've got some prototype hardware that's going to make use of the text on the screen. We haven't got any text up there yet, but we're getting close.

OverLOAD,

Your site mentions that the advanced version will be "Upgradable to Portable MP3 Control". What exactly will that entail? Is that a separate module that we'll have to purchase in addition to the advanced version, and is that something that will be available at the same time as the advanced version or would it be developed later? What features will it offer? I'm specifically referring to iPod control in my case. I'm trying to decide among the following:

- AuxMod basic, no iPod controls
- Wait for AuxMod advanced
- Get PIE adaptor, no iPod controls
- Get Denison IceLink Plus (either wait for a Mazda version or use the Alpine version with PIE)

Can you help advise?

Thanks!
-Brian

We're working on iPOD control. we think we can do it pretty cleanly. We've already emulated the simple remote control, but it can get out of sync, so it's not without problems.

The Upgradable mp3 remote control I'm referring to is the optional cable assemblies that will give a module the capability to control the mp3 player that it was designed for. We're supporting PC control natively, and through the extra pins on the serial port we will supply remote controls and possibly power for mp3 players. There will be some extra circuitry, but not too much we hope.

As far as text goes, we've nailed the algorithm, but we're still running into some problems. We're pretty sure that we'll be able to achieve it. With a PC to send formatted text, that will give you the ability to push whatever you want onto the display.

Are you looking at text support for PC only, or for the other MP3 (specifically, iPod) players as well?

Yup, and yup. We want to make the iPOD interface work seamlessly. It's going to take some doing, and may delay our launch of Advanced a bit, but we're pretty sure that we can create some hooks to allow the PC app to pull/push data from Winamp or another app to the HU, as well as the same from the iPOD. It's just a matter of time to get the user interface and the nitty gritty ironed out.

Still, please don't hold me to it until it's done

Talking Wahoo!

Paid for it and recieved it not long after. I waited since Jan and its worth it.

My only problem is the engine noise that comes on. I have a CarPC. Anyone know how I can filter this out? Much appreciated.

Caught by the Ground Loop Isolator... It's a common problem when using accessory powered devices in cars.

Radio shack sells them pretty cheap. They are passive inline devices that go directly in the audio path. They are very effective, and have a minimal (but still some) impact on the audio quality.

We've got a reference to a radio shack part number that should work, with the appropriate adapters. Check this out, it should help: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=270-054

If you use a ground loop isolator you will loose some bass. I had the same prob and was able to eliminate it by moving my rca cable away from the power line.

I have been piddling with a modulator with my CarPC for the last 5 months. This is SO much better

Thanks, but I was thinking more of what it looks like from sitting in the car, a pic of the front facia would be good.

You don't see anything different when sitting in the car... the module is about 1.5" square and is plugged into the underside of the head unit - it's hidden in the center console.

Ah, so you can run your wires through the centre tunnel into the drinks area, or where ever you might want them, thats good.
I was thinking that it might replace the semi circle of shiny black plastic below the controls, with a flip down front that revealed many ux inputs, or is that me just being a bit too ambitious!

Anyway, I still want one, how much to send one to England please?

That might be convenient but you would have to disconnect everything to remain stealthy. I prefer the current implementation.

Would running a splitter to the input jack work? In the case of my setup where I have my Carputer I would like to put a 1/8" input so I could plug an Ipod to it. Of course I don't plan on running them both at the same time.
Something tells me there is something inherantly wrong with this picture and I would need some sort of switching for the two inputs?

Hi Scalliwag,

Using a splitter can work, but can also cause problems. Its best to use an Audio switcher, which can be found at Radio Shack (selectable inputs). The other option is to manually unplug each unit as required.

The problem with having both plugged in at the same time, is that it can degrade sound quality, and cause feedback through the other devices, as well as a third leg for another ground loop, that a ground loop isolator may not be able to compensate for.

This: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=15-1982 looks like it ought to do the job you're looking for. Short of what was suggested way back in this thread for multiple selectable inputs controlled from the module, this is probably the best way to do it.

Regards,
