Custom Aux-In Module
#1076
Being worse then a novice how does this work? I want one for my wife's 6 and my 8 so we can hook our Sat radio tuners to it vs FM modulation. Anyone give a quick explain of what it does, what i need to make it work with my Sportster and her Starmate Sat players? I assume it would give the same quality as going the PIE route but maybe easier?

It converts the tape option into a auxilary input. Once installed when you press tape you can listen to your Sat radio turner. As easy as PIE but both are on backorder.

#316. We're working on a pretty large batch of modules. There going to be assembled by a fab house, so that should mean that we get a very large number of modules in a short period of time. It's probably going to be 6 to 8 weeks from now..
We've also been looking into the buzzing/hum that people have mentioned. We've seen it as well, and it's not very noticable. We are going to have additional circuitry in AuxMod Advanced that we are testing out now, that will virtually eliminate this possibility. It's a ground loop isolator that uses a differential amp to isolate the input signal.

We're shooting for August, but we can't really say for sure.
We're making good progress with it, but AuxMod Basic is still taking up a lot of our time.

basic and advance
Heya OverLOAD,
I'm on the list for the advance version, but I can't wait that long for it. Is it possible for me to order the Basic now and later on buy the advance also from you? I need it this week because it's my week off work and I'm working on the carpc now.
-Thanks

OverLOAD,
Would it be possible for me to to "remotely" install the AuxMod somewhere else in the car?
Such as, make an extension cable with a male connector on one end to plug into the head unit, and a female connector on the other end to plug into the AuxMod.
If so, what would be the maximum recommended electircal length of the cable?
I want to do this for 2 reasons:

I want to do this for 2 reasons:
1) I anticipate getting the Basic model first, but as soon as the Advanced one is available, I don't want to tear back into the Head Unit to swap them out.
2) When I finally have the Advanced model , I only want to run ONE cable (the proposed extension cable), from the Head Unit area to the destination location, versus two (an audio and serial cable).
your thoughts?2) When I finally have the Advanced model , I only want to run ONE cable (the proposed extension cable), from the Head Unit area to the destination location, versus two (an audio and serial cable).

you can remove the head unit in under 10mins once you've had a little practice...really no big deal

I've got a hard drive based MP3 player that's been sitting in my room for a month, waiting for the AuxMod. If you go up a page or two, you can see that they're having this batch made by an outside company (no more doing them by hand) and won't be done for another month or so.
It's tough to wait!

Hi Guys,
I know everyone wants a module, but please be patient and wait your turn. If you've signed up on my wait list, we will get to you.
As for relocating the module, I like what everyone else is saying, keep it the way Mazda wanted it, inside the radio. long cables are a good way to make it unreliable.
The audio has to be on a sheilded cable, or it will pick up a lot more noise. We've managed to pick up a couple of the male connectors that you would need if you wanted to make a simple extension cable, but it wasn't easy. This isn't something that we would offer to everyone. We've considered using this method in our cars just so that we can swap out and test the modules much more efficiently.
Like the other people pointed out though, once you get good at pulling the HU, it gets much faster. A key that I've noticed is that it's much easier to remove all the connectors when its warm out. The plastic retention tabs and connector lock tabs are much harder to remove when it's cold out. I'd say you could even do it in under 5 min. if you had done it a few times before.

I am so happy with the AUXMOD, particularly after combining it with a radio controlled remote for my iPod. It's worked beautifully for almost two months and I am really glad that I didn't splurge for the MiniDisc player that I wanted when I bought the car.
