Confirmed - Another dash/install kit is coming.
But really.. I would honestly want a perfect product than to have it be released early with problems.
I suppose we'll all be installing this during thanksgiving break. lol

I had such high hopes for this kit when Canary first brought this out. And the timeline was enticing. Now I am starting to lose interest. Although the Cat Failure pictures were beyond hilarious.
theres single din and double din and single din comes with that pocket yess =D i also contacted the supplier for western canada to see when they receive the product ( since im in canada ) i'll b sure to keep u guys updated, i want this kit as bad as any of u guys haha, all on the same boat....hoping to one day see someone saying " RECEIVED IN MAIL " haha...i have my hopes too high =.=
Damn 3-4 more weeks, that does suck, but yeah I to would rather it be released 100% then have problems and I am sure they want the same thing and that's why they havn't released it yet. I to am dying for this but Just try not to think about it, I havn't and it hasn't really been bugging me. I also thought about just going with Corksport and stop waiting for Metra but eh might as well just wait, not going to kill me to wait. I to am going with the flip screen/single din and even have everything already but i will keep waiting it will be here eventually, as long as its here before i put my car in HIN in early 09 which Im sure it will be, I will be happy.
I would have totally bought the corksport now.. except the metra kit promises not only to be cheaper.. but also better. If the quality of the two products were the same, I would not be waiting this long.
All in all, I'd say the fitment would play the largest role in my book. I'm not unhappy with corksport's fitment, but if it was just as good minus the two textured side bezels..... that would hold more weight then the clock or display features.

EDIT: After re-reading the first post in this topic, the clock IS NOT kept. Also the customizable display may or may not be supported. Knowing this... what the hell are all you guys waiting for?! A real slap in the face it has taken this long, seeing as how it's not THAT much better.
In this quote, posted after the last update from the 1st page, it says the opposite.
Allows full retention of the factory climate controls and center dash display.
Center dash display, to me, sounds like it keeps the clock.
From the official metra press release
All Mazda RX8 kits utilize the factory climate buttons to:
retain all existing features of the factory HVAC (climate system)
fully control ambient temperature display, On/Off, and Celsius or Fahrenheit reading
allow added user-configurable text to factory display
control functions of the engineered and supplied accurate crystal-controlled clock, both 12 and 24 hour modes
retain HVAC control indicators to dim with headlights; backlight dims with vehicle dimmer control
reveal HVAC status on upper display.

Are you trying to help us all out in the thread here and sway us all over to the purchase of the corksport kit, thereby ending our torturous wait?
As you've said on occasion, all the downsides of the corksport kit compared to what the metra should have don't matter to you... so I guess it shouldn't matter for anyone else....

I can tell you I am going to hold out for the Metra Kit. So as soon as one is out from Metra my guy is suppose to email and get one to me.
So I will start a new thread then.
So I will start a new thread then.
I too will wait, why pay an extra $300 for the same product? Only to have the Metra kit come out and be like damn I could have saved $300. I also understand why some have already got the Corksport a while ago, I don't blame you I probably would have as well if i had gotten my 8 around the same time, but to get my 8 around a time a cheaper kit is coming out, I might as well wait. So I will also be holding out plus mine is already pre-ordered with Installers.
Hopefully not everyone will be starting a thread when they get there's, hopefully we can just have one thread for that specifically when it comes out, either by the first person to get it or someone who just wants to get it started, also maybe have it stickied if possible.
I'm still trying to wait on my Metra kit as well, but now my stock stereo is doing all kinds of wierd crap in the display. Yesterday when I left work, I shifted into 2nd gear a little rough, and the whole display blacked out completely! The CD stopped playing and everything. Up until then, I only had minor problems like not being able to eject CDs in the summer (they get stuck for some reason and I have to use another CD to "pry" them out), and skipping every 2 seconds even on brand new, store bought CDs!
If this kit isn't available to the masses by the time my bonus comes in at work next month, I'm going to get the iPod kit or an FM transmitter for my iPod Touch until it's ready.

But yeah, after a couple people mentioned they are so tired of waiting they might buy the corksport kit, I laid out the differences. Coming from an owner, figured my opinion on missing the clock/display would hold a little water. In my opinion, it's certainly not a huge difference between the two. Other than price. I've had the corksport kit for many months now. So now that the Metra kit has taken this long, it could come out tomorrow, and I'd still consider my purchase money well spent.
So I talked to my buddy at local audio shop today. They handle Metra and he says MSRP on the double DIN HG is $180, when asked about ship time he had about the same info as the last few posts, around 3 weeks. And lucky me i convinced him to sell it to me at dealer cost in exchange for lending him my DB-Meter.
Now i just gotta wait on that phone call letting me know its shipped!

Think it loses all meaning over time. Will we still be saying this in January?
