Lol how would I be spending $1000? $100 on a nice deck on ebay and $200 on the metra kit, about the same if not cheaper for an 80gb ipod, which is way more space then I need, I don't know about you but I don't spend that much time in my car to need like 5,000 songs on an ipod lol, 700mb is fine for me, don't really need more then 200 songs, then it would just be a pain searching the ipod for the song I want, and I don't have any problems with cd's getting scratched, even if they did, id just burn a new one, no big, besides as often as new songs come out or songs I want to add on a cd, never really keep one long enough for it to get damaged before I make a new one anyway, back to what I said earlier I also want to add a deck just to give the inside a nicer cleaner look add some more detail rather then just stock, but anways so how many people we got so far for the group buy?

Hey dude. To each their own.
hmm. I definitely wouldn't go that far. The audiolink is far from perfect in my opinion.

Right now I have the audiolink that reads off SD cards. It is a pretty neat system since most of my favorite songs fit on only a few SD cards, which are each three times bigger than a CD. But the sound is crap compared to the stock system.

Most likely the Ipod version is much better because it doesn't have its own mp3 decoder; it uses the ipod's built-in one, which is probably higher quality than the one in the audiolink usb adapter. However, if he doesn't already have an ipod, it sort of makes it a moot point, since getting an ipod plus the audiolink would cost as much as a new HU that plays mp3s.

Pretty sure that as long as a Metra rep themself is not posting on RX8club, it's a free for all. Exactly like the Group Buy with the Corksport kit.

I was referring to canary's comment. RX8Club's policy on Group Buys and Venders. With the Corksport kit, we just all communicated freely on the thread, touched base with Corksport outside the board, and just decided to buy all at the same time. Should be no policies broken.

oh, didnt know there was a policy on the forum for group buys, i thought that is how it is always done, people talke here, then talk to the company outside the forum then all pay at the same time on the companys site for the group buy

whoa dude, where are you getting 6-8 weeks from? Pretty sure the first batch is looking towards the end of the month. I don't know if I can get us in that batch or not with a group buy, either way, I'm trying to go about this the right way with respect to the forum and especially its vendors, and save us a couple of bucks as well, if that means we're part of the "2nd wave" or something then I guess that's how it will have to work out. Between this thread, (I've been told we're somewhat of an influence..cool huh ?) and all the press surrounding this kit's release, I surely doubt it will take more than 2 months (6-8 weeks) to get it out there and available to everyone. I'll have some time Thursday to work on this a bit as I'm taking that day off from work, maybe even try calling the engineer I've been rapping with back and forth etc.

curious question, does Metra offer any kind of warranty on these complex adapter kits, namely on the HVAC/display control harness? I'd figure if we get the first batches of these things there will bound to be first-run teething issues that need to be sorted out. Frankly I don't want to be used as a Guinea Pig and have to pay more later to have things fixed as they get updated.

Any of the Metra kits I sell carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. Now, I'm not 100% sure if that's through us or from Metra. But we don't ask questions. We please customers.

Our understanding is that it comes with the harness. And no one has the kit yet, installer-parts just has a pre-order set up to get your moneh.

your post read more like you heard 2 weeks, then assumed 6-8. No big deal, was just confusing to me is all. Well I've not heard back from this site yet on setting up a group buy type deal, so I'll try contacting other mods/admins until I find whoever it is that handles this stuff now. I'll revisit my general Metra harassment this week as well and see how things are going with them, hang in there peoples, these will be out soon and with any luck I can try and save us a couple of bucks on them
