Question Changing the text display on start-up?

Does anyone know how to change the text that shows up on the cd display when you turn on your car?

By default it says "Mazda rx-8" but I'd like to change it if I can...

the only way i know how to change it is by installing a metra dash kit. i'm not sure if it changes the "mazda RX8" on startup though

Bummer... I met someone who managed to do it on their honda civic si, and I was hoping it was possible in the rx-8 too. Maybe not...

this has been asked a couple of times in the past. Some of the other mazdas (3,6?) can be changed via the radio controls if you know how. ppl thought that since some of the hardware and software is similar/same that we could change ours as well.

i'm pretty sure it was determined that without some modification that reflashes the firmware in the radio, you wont be able to change the test, sorry

yup, can't really do it on a stock RX-8. The Metra Kit lets you do it though

yeah, metra allows you to change the startup text... of course you're thowing out the stock head unit in the process though and using its control module in place of it to drive the LCD.

The metra kit does allow you to put custom text in the display. Of course you have to make sure you flash the latest firmware into the metra kit or:

1. your ac wont work
2. your heat wont work
3. random things on the display wont work

The metra kit also has a bad habit of not having the cleanest finish on some of the people who have installed it.

I think they're up to version 1.4 on the firmware.. make sure that's what is on your kit when you buy it.

The Corksport kit doesn't allow you to change the text?

Firebirdude, are you glad you stuck with the Corksport kit?

No the Corksport does not allow you to change the text.

Oh hell yes I am. I had to unsubscribe from the Metra thread due to the constant stream of replies from people trying to solve all their problems with the kit. I figured it might be that way. I called it back when this kit was first released. Those "Axxess" boxes are crap.

lol okay good. I was somewhat following the Metra Kit thread as well. At first I was disappointed that something cheaper and 'superior' was coming along. But seeing the thread, I think I am happy with my choice as well, though I have not installed it yet (saving up to buy a AVIC Z unit).
